Here's the revamped Champions League format being proposed, which is only slightly better than the Super League (if at all).

It's really dumb. This will really reduce marquee games. So a Liverpool plays 10 games against who? Based on seeding? Flying to places like Turkey and Kazahstan? Then only 8 make it?

I think these mega owners in Europe see how mega owners in North American sports call the shots in their leagues and so want that model to exist.

Frankly I think the super league was an inevitability, but if anyone can band together when they are pissed off, it's football fans. let's see how this unfolds.

When have they ever done that? They have tolerated domestic leagues where only a handful of teams can be contenders, for decades and decades.

that's why those asshats pull this off while the stadiums are still empty. Matchgoing fans would go crazy.

The threat to ban players from FIFA is hollow. Countries would simply pull out of FIFA and set up their own invitationals. You guys don't like a 48 team world cup as is.

In Germany, they fought to continue to ownership stakes in clubs and so have voting rights in the direction of clubs. Pretty big deal IMO.

It's going to basically be a choice of letting the clubs run the biggest competition, or UEFA. If the Super League just dropped the guaranteed to avoid relegation aspect of things I think most people would back it over UEFA. Not like it's a good choice either way, but I still think UEFA is worse. Their new proposal today is basically just looking to exploit bigger clubs for more TV money anyway. It's not like UEFA will act in the best interest of the sport, that's for sure.

UEFA and FIFA have just gotten too greedy. 36 team champions league where a top team has to play 10 matches and isn't even guaranteed to marque match? And FIFA is nuts to stage a 48 team world cup plus nations league commitments.

Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea will likely be banned from this season’s Champions League semi-finals, UEFA executive committee member Jesper Moller told broadcaster DR on Monday.

“The clubs must go, and I expect that to happen on Friday. Then we have to find out how to finish (this season’s) Champions League tournament,” said Moller, who is the head of the Danish FA. “There is an extraordinary executive committee meeting on Friday.”
Interesting to see what happens if they follow through on that.

I'd imagine PSG would be declared champs. Making PSG play games against already eliminated teams would be a surefire way to get them to change their mind and go into the Super League.

At least let them finish this year's champions league. It would turn this clown show even clown-ier if they just halted the tournament and handed the trophy to PSG haha.

The only reason PSG aren't in the Super League right now is because PSG owns BeIN who have UCL rights. Once that gets settled they'll be bolting ASAP.

This is a devastating day for football. Pleased to see no Bundesliga teams signing up for this farce yet and I really hope it remains that way. Bayern and Dortmund have both said they’re not joining.

I want to see the Liverpool players walk out of their match today. I know it would never happen, but could you imagine players taking a stand like that? Bruno Fernandes is the first player of one of these clubs to speak out, “dreams can’t be buy”. I hope more players and managers follow suit

And also the 2022 World Cup.

They'll be in as soon as they can. So will Bayern once the heat has landed on the rest of the teams and it's cooled down.

They've been involved in this discussion every time this type of concept has been brought up as a founding member. This is like the third go round of this idea in the last several years. They were just lucky this time to not be on a press release so they could pivot after the fact publicly.
