Default Friedman's 31 thoughts Dec 4 - Flames laughed off lowball offers for Bennett

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...ct-coming-nhl/

Quote:
15. Before everything that happened last week in Calgary, other clubs were trying to see if they could steal Sam Bennett. The Flames apparently laughed off lowball offers. In the past, teams that have tried to get him include Anaheim, Montreal and Nashville.

Other interesting trade rumors/speculation:

Devils want 2 first rounders (willing to attach re-sign/playoff conditions) and/or high level prospects who are ready to play for Hall
Edmonton is interested but Friedman is not convinced they will pay NJ's price

Oilers discussed Puljujarvi for Lias Andersson swap with the Rangers

Miles Wood is on the block

Speculates Bergevin's Russia trip might be to see what he can count on for next year before making a big move

Backstrom is negotiating on his own with Capitals. Would be complete shocker if the deal doesn't get done

I'd be curious what constitutes a "lowball" offer from those teams?

Probably a middle pick or B prospect.

Man, I would go full hate on Bennett if he went to the Ducks.

Maybe it’s purposeful to get the word to stop bothering Treliving with trade offers that waste his time.

Honestly I think Bennett could find his game in a spot like Nashville. I’d rather get people from their management/coaching team than give them our underperforming players to make better.

Someone should write a book about the things Flash has been told. There's a lot of them.

So why not actually contribute?

If you're suggesting the Flames leaked that (could be), then go with it. Maybe they're looking to deal him now that they're getting healthy and they want to drum up some interest.

Not a bad theory.

Certainly adds more than a quick snipe.

I think the Flames are finally willing to part with Bennett but it won’t be for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

I can see Bennett and Kylington being packaged to get a top 6 forward.

I think if the Flames really wanted Hall and want to get him soon Bennett+Valimaki+1st would get it done but that is too steep without a guarantee of re-signing or even making the playoffs.

I mean, at the very least they leak less, no?

Since treliving arrived, one of the leakiest organizations around imo.

Surprised Bennett is sought out so much in the league.

Edmonton would have to move out some salary to take on Hall. Moving out overpriced replacement players would just add to the cost.

He has very attractive qualities you'd want in a hockey player.

Just no to trading 1st rounders. It's not a trade that will make the Flames automatic cup winners.

I hope this organization has learned its lesson with how bare the forward prospect cupboard is in giving up early round draft picks. You need to built from the draft, rather than relying on trades and UFA's (which has been awful of late).

Flames need to hold onto, and add early round picks if anything.

If the oilers move Neal to grab Hall I might light myself on fire.

He has proven to be useful when he isn’t scoring and I am sure some teams think a fresh start could jump start the offense.

Sure, but at the same time we have already tried putting him in the top 6 to get his offensive game going. He really turns it up during the playoffs, but that is about it. Wondering if lowball means a 3rd and a meh prospect.
