I was also stunned that the McDermott elbow on Gaudreau wasn't addressed in any way. The puck was in the net, for one thing, it was clearly headhunting and even if neither of the previous were the case it would have been blatant interference.
Any word about the Flames sending it to the league? Fundamentally, it's an incredibly dangerous assault. With the goal, the play was dead and Gaudreau likely relaxed because of it, making him extra vulnerable. Just dumb luck no injury resulted.

Yet another game where the Flames outhit the opposition. This time 21-16.
This has become a trend. Putting into the reporting style of fancy stats the Flames won the hit battle 56.7 to 43.3.
The number of Flames with no hits was down to 5. Gaudreau, Rieder, Frolik Magniapane and Brodie.
Not only are the Flames winning they are looking to being getting playoff ready.

I couldn’t believe Friedman was praising McDermid, he played a dirty game. Several cheap shots of varying degrees. I noticed Burke didn’t chime in and agree.

I couldn't believe that when Friedman was going off about him.
The boarding on Lucic in the first
The elbow on Johnny
And I thought he coulda got called for another elbow on Tkachuk in the 3rd.
But hey. Let's keep calling the ticky-tac hooks and stick blades that barely touch the gloves. That'll keep the players safe.

Officiating stinks in this league. Lots of ticky tack penalties yet dirty plays go unpunished.

and the inconsistency.
Like I said in the game story I don't like any of those slashing the stick (doesn't break), but the guy drops the stick calls.
But how do you call that on Backlund and then not call it the rest of the game when the Kings did it three times on Calgary players? I don't believe in conspiracies, and I don't think Calgary is hard done by, but the inconsistency drives me nuts.

Hey Bingo, although we only had an OTL in Pittsburgh, we won the game before in Philly, so it's points in 6 straight games, not 5. 11 out of a 12 possible points!
Gotta celebrate the positives after that losing streak.

A sticklift that results in a flying stick isn't a penalty, only a downward chop.
Which seems silly to me, because they generally require the same amount of force.

Stick has somewhere to go on the stick lift though so it doesn’t break.
Backlund penalty was weak, how much easier than diving is that!? Just drop your stick. Boom. Powerplay.

The calls in the game last night lead me to believe I don't know what interference is. There were several of the exact same plays that Reider got a penalty for commited later in the game.

Gaudreau got held up exactly the same way. So did Tkachuk, who does the board chip and chase a lot.

Taking a while to get to 5000

The game is just too fast and is dependent on angles. The refs see one play from the front, the next from the side, maybe another from behind. No wonder everything looks different. IMO a referee supervisor or head ref who works from the pres box and watches the monitors is needed to clean up what happens on the ice and correct bad calls or make them if required.
