Flashy stat guys with huge holes in their game.

Once you tag the buyout cost onto Kylingtons salary, the gap narrows. Stone brings a physicality to the roster that is lacking, and Kylington can't duplicate. I think Stone will be our Englland lite for the season.

Also, if Brodie is moved and Stone is bought out, they would be very undermanned on the right side.

Unless Subban is traded for, or Myers is signed, of course. Then buyout away.

The only scenario I can envision where he isn't bought out is being packaged with an asset to another team with the assurance that he will spend the season on LTIR.

Detroit for example.

What a waste.

I rather they just made Stone the 7th dman than buy him out. Can't just assume every young d prospect is going to be able to play 82 games next year.

Problem is they need every bit of cap space they can find. Stone being bought out/traded with retention is an inevitability imo.

I agree. I don't mind Stone one bit, and with the term he has I'd be perfectly fine letting him finish his deal. But the Flames likely need that money elsewhere

Has any player who has ever been placed on buyout/termination waivers ever been claimed?

He was a good community guy and a good team guy, but overpaid, overused and underskilled.

The best part is that it opens up more icetime for their younger defensemen. The buy-out might have been a favor to him for his service instead of burying him in minors.

It's a weird rule for sure. Almost as if I were obligated to make the rounds asking all my neighbors if there is someting in my garbage bag they want before I throw it out.
