The Catholic Church had those kind of rules as well.

No, it didn't. It had people who did those things in spite of the rules, and higher-ups who were more concerned with preserving their public image than dealing with the offenders.

Is there anything more lame than hazing?
Always done by a bunch of dudebro jocks of whose idea of bonding always seem to involve getting naked together.

Nothing's shouts "I'm definitely not gay!" than making boys get naked and huddle in a bathroom.

What the heck is hazing? I've heard of blazing - that tends to be fun.

I'm not sure if you're serious, but its something thats done to make new people 'part of the team' and its largely despicable because it glorifies humiliating people for the gratification of others whose only claim to deserve that gratification is that 'they were there first.'

I see nothing wrong with "fun for everyone" hazing. Make the rookies carry the vets bag to and from the bus with no additional bs or make all the rookies wear something funny while still being respectful to the team party.
As soon as you start crossing the line from fun to disrespectful or emotionally embarrassing, it has gone way too far and I think there needs to be much more severe punishments (perhaps there is as we seem to hear about it less or perhaps people have taken an understanding as to what is too far).

I'm not opposed to some sort of initiation ritual if it's in the spirit of the game and the team. Like a super bag skate or something.
If it's in a bullying fashion though, that's where the line gets drawn.

The climate of not condoning children bullying each other to the point of physical violence for the sake of some weird version of team-bonding tha doesn't actually work and only creates an environment of tension and exclusiveness? Super toxic I know. Why can't it be the good ol' days when we would piss on each other in the shower, I could call my buddy a f** or a p**** and it didn't hurt nobody?! Sept the kids being peed on, the girl who wants to play and closeted gay kid in the corner of course...
Hazing has never been okay. Just because people did it for a long time doesn't mean it wasn't just plain dickish behavior.

Seems like some different deffinitions on what hazing is. Done in moderation it is a welcome to the club type initiation. I am talking about making the rookie skate the first lap on the ice by himself type prank we have seen often before. That sort of thing is actually good for team bonding.
Obviously abuse is an entirely different matter and can not be justifiably defended. That goes beyond what I would term hazing.

Yep, you hear it in most major sports. They have a version of the rookie dinner, rookies have to wear costumes on a trip, I know in the NFL most teams have a rule about rookies bringing in breakfast for their position groups in film days
Stuff like that is more team building
The type of stuff it seems like aliu went through, or you hear countless stories of with other junior teams or frats is just idiots exerting power to show some type of control over personal agency and it needs to stop

The thing for me is that when Aliu declines the naked shower hazing, that Downie later, during a practice, taps him in the shoulder and when he turns around, cross checks him in the face and knocks out 4 teeth, he felt 50 pct of the team still was against him. It’s nuts.
And Aliu gets a game for fighting Downie in a practice.
Hazing. Nuts
