That is far from the only question of uncertainty that plagues the Jets coming in to this season. The Jets are poorly coached and the most undisciplined team in the NHL. They will unsurprisingly once again try to win games by running over other teams and will lose on a mediocre penalty kill.

I don't know who the Jet take out of the Central. NSH? CHI? STL? Then the Wild card is just a deep with Dallas, CGY, EDM, ANA, SJ.

I dont think the Jets have a chance.

The Jets had the:
Center:
- 4th highest producing Center in Scheifele, and a decent #2 in Little who was top50 in Center points in the league
- decent depth in Perreault, Lowry,

LW:
- 7th highest scoring Left winger in Ehlers

RW:
- 4th highest in league in Wheeler
- 7th highest in league in Laine
- decent depth wtih strafford

Defence:
- 6th best scoring Dman in league in Byfuglien
- another top50 dman in scoring in trouba
- other solid guys like myers, enstrom, Morrisey

Goalies:
- haven't the jets had some of the "highest rated goalie prospects" in the game for several years now?! at least that's what i keep reading online over the years.

The jets have had the critical pieces to be good for years, and have disappointed regardless. They take dumb penalties every year, don't play disciplined at all. They have a coach who hasn't been able to address that, who has yet to get out more than the sum of their parts, and a GM too gun shy to do anything about any of it.

Until they decide to actually do something about that, i feel they will continue to disappoint. But, let's give them the award for best prospects, best group of players under 23 or whatever, but i'd be skeptical to bet on the NHL roster figuring it out.....

Explain it however you like, the answer to why they haven't been good has very simply been goaltending. That is the difference between a mediocre middle of the pack team and a consistent playoff team. If they get last year's Steve Mason, that probably won't change. If the Steve Mason from the year before that, or the year before that, it probably will.

No Joly, I am sad.

Guys I'll be focusing on today will be Hawerchuk, Ruzicka, Dube, McDonald, Valleyamaki and Andsersson (who I am surprised is playing today)

Actually, Fischer was good yesterday too, lets see if he can keep it up.

Goaltending has definitely been an issue for the Jets, but you ought not undersell how much team discipline has hurt this group for several years now. Ill-timed and unnecessary penalties are a long established calling card in Winnipeg, and until this changes they are unlikely to go very far.

Minnesota as well doesn't look to be taking a step back anytime soon.

Are the Flames just older than the other teams in this tourney overall? How many 1995 or older players are in this thing?

That was a very solid penalty kill.
