With Soucy in the minors and Manson signed, it gives me the chance to fill out the roster a bit more.

I feel like there are some really stacked teams this season. I wonder if the sim will show the gap

Interesting as my sense is that there is more parody (parity?).
Would be interesting if someone could do the analysis based on rosters posted.
I was also thinking it would be interesting to look at % of cap applied by team meaning.
What % of each time is applied to
Forwards
D
Goalies
Or if you want to get really interesting
Top line
Middle 6
Bottom line
Top D
Second D
Depth D
Starting Goalie
Backup

I classify a "stacked team" as a team that had a 3rd line with 70+ OVR players. It seems like there is that tipping point between 69 and 70

By your definition my team is stacked but I disagree and actually agree with Grant (did I just say that?!?!) that there is more parity which is good. Stacked teams don't work (at least by my definition). My definition of a stacked team is one that has 75+ top 6 guys (like my team last year) vs a more balanced top 9.
I have considerably downgraded all over this year as stacked teams don't work and my team doesn't meet my definition of that this year so hoping for better results.
Pat is just used to having high 60 players on his top line, this 70+ rating thing is foreign to him...

Here's one way to look at it.
Let's start with forwards
There are 84 (28*3) first line positions in the league
- There are 69 players 74 or above, so by that definition anyone 74 and above ratings is a top line player in our league. Therefore if you have someone with a 74 playing below your top line you are stronger than what an equal distribution would be
If you expand to the second line, there are 168 top 6 positions in the league
- There are 171 players 71 or above, so if you have someone with a 71 playing below your top 6 you are stronger than what an equal distribution would be
If we expand to the third line, there are 252 top 9 positions
- This takes us to 69 rated players (243 total)
If we expand to the fourth line, there are 336 top 12 positions
- This takes us to 67 rated players (344 total)
So in terms of forwards
- First line players are those 74 or above
- Second line players are 71-73
- Third line players are 69-70
- Fourth liners are 67/68
Now let’s look at D (I’ll summarize more quicky here now that the methodology is set)
- Top D pairings (56 positions in the league) are 72 and above (54 players)
- Second D pairings are 71/70 (55 playes)
- Final D pairings are 67-69 (83 players here but it doesn’t cut as cleanly)
Goalies is easy
- Starting goalies (28 positions) are 85+ (26 players in the league so not quite)
- Back-ups are 79-84 (30 players in total). You could argue that 84 rated players are more like 1Bs in our league or elite back-ups. This group includes Samsonov, Blackwood, Gibson, Driedger and Binnington so the low end of starters.
We should not be surprised that there is a slight over supply of starters because there are more NHL teams than CPHL teams and almost all NHL teams have a legit starter. This could also explain why the trade market for goalies is always soft. There is simply an over supply.

I happen to know a quality starting goalie that’s in the market. His name rhymes with Robin Lehner…

Personally I think that there is another tier above 'first line' that transcends the quality of a first line player. The top 22 forwards over 77, and the top 19 defensemen above 75 are exceptional. There are not enough to go around, and I sold my soul to acquire one and shift my strategy from a group effort, to having someone to build around.
This is probably the line that I would draw for a 'stacked team'. If you have more than one of these players, you are doing very well. That's not saying that it guarantees success, I did pretty good last year with a more balanced team in the playoffs.
I'm also hoping that Heiskanen explodes this year and I end up with a 77 defenseman, through a little patience!

Still some work to do. But it’s a million times better than it was a few months ago. Still would like to add a top 6 F and a top 4 D. Might want to upgrade at goalie, but goalies in the sim are voodoo.

The Leafs are satisfied with going into the season with this lineup and seeing how things shake out in the early going.
The blueline isn't great, but is full of experience and strong defensive ratings, and hopefully my fearsome twosome in net can hide any warts. I had a way sexier defence last year and couldn't keep the puck out of the net, so we'll see.
