Those games will probably be in the afternoon too.
I remember watching the Texas series in 2015 during work. During a meeting was when Martin hit Choo's bat throwing it back to the pitcher and when it ended was after they finally got the crowd to settle down and stop throwing garbage on the field.

First round, now that it's 3 games not 1, MLB wants over asap. Texas and Tampa's schedule is no better.
Division series and beyond, only one game can be prime time each day and the team in Canada, which doesn't get good US TV network ratings, will always get the the least TV friendly time...it's been that way since 1985.

So who should be on the roster?
Pitchers
Gausmsn
Bassitt
Berrios
Kikuchi
Cabrera
Green
Maya
Garcia
Swanson
Hicks
Romano
Kirk
Heineman
Guerrero
Belt
Biggio
Whitfield
Espinal
Bichette
Chapman
Schneider
Springer
Kiermeier
Varsho
Eden
You could drop Eden for another pitcher, but with a 3 game series, I'd plan on Gausman/Bassitt/Kikuchi as the three starters. Maybe move Kikuchi to game 2 if they win game 1. But 7 relievers plus an extra starter to go long should be enough pitchers. They'll probably bring Richard's...I'd pick Francis over him if I could.

So now I just remembered when Gausman played the Twins this year and Twins were not chasing the splitter at all

So you have 162 game schedule and then schedule the 3 game playoff series in mid-afternoon of a work week?
Holy #### how stupid are these people?

Yeah I have a busy work week. It's like there isn't even a playoff series to me, unfortunately. Hopefully they win so I can watch at least some of the next round.

Stupid enough to slot the games that have a bigger draw into prime time.
The only question is: would they get more viewers if they slotted all the games in prime time? And their research obviously says no.
I mean, the game is at 4:30 Eastern - it's going to get 90+% of its potential viewership

It is a game meant for the 1900s.. lol
I mean 162 game regular season to have a best of 3 wildcard. Broken!

Minnesota is central time and most people, particularly in Toronto with the commute, likely aren’t home until well after 5. Then there’s the enormous fanbase west of Toronto you are massively discounting.
It’s stupid. Just admit it. What is the point of this ridiculous timing? So it doesn’t compete with games that people who support the Jays don’t care about and won’t watch anyway?

Would you consider Berrios against his old team? Is that risky?
I worry about the 3:30 CT start and Kikuchi only being able to get 13 hours sleep

I'm not discounting anything.
It's at 4:30 eastern. Not too big of a deal. Also, 90+% of people can PVR it if they need to.
You understand that they've done the research, and have slotted the games based on their research, right? Calling them stupid just makes you look stupid.

No. It’s stupid. It’s stupid to defend it too. Not realizing how stupid it is makes you seem stupid. Really stupid.
It makes baseball seem Mickey Mouse and massively decreases the audience to watch. It devalues their brand and makes their playoffs seem like a joke that no one takes seriously or cares about.

It's antiquated tv thinking, or maybe forced by the ads. Just play all 4 games at night. Other sports, the NFL and March Madness especially, have proven you can have a bunch of games on at once.

Actually, the NFL is doing everything possible to NOT have games on at the same time. Ten years ago, there were 2 time slots on Sunday, plus a Monday night game.
Now there are what? 8 slots a week? Sometimes more.
It isn't antiquated TV thinking, it is absolutely the trend.

This is essentially a gimmick round that let more teams think they made the playoffs than there used to be. They went from 4 teams per league with no playing game to a playing game with 5 teams and now it's 4 series with 8 teams involved. They don't want to push out the end of the season and this fits more teams in and adds 1-2 extra days from the old wild card game.
TV is a dying media and most of the Continent will have it start near the end of their work day. Im sure a lot of people will be streaming the game at work. Also it's a colder city with an outdoor stadium, so the late afternoon start might bring some shadows but ensures that it's during the warmer part of the day.
I do think all games could be staggered by 30 minutes and start at 7 Eastern or later and it wouldn't really change the viewership that much. Our MLB thread on this forum really does not get much traffic so chances are most won't really watch much of the other games regardless who's in them.

I agree. I was all in on the Jays during the 2015 & 2016 runs, but the subsequent playoffs start times soured me. I still like it snd pay attention, but I refuse to invest the amount of time it takes to become diehard for Jays/MLB like I am with NHL/NFL when I can't even watch their playoff games due to them starting in the middle of the work day.
Wild Card / Divisionals I sort of get it, but holding the Jays ALCS series at the same time is when they lost me.

I think that is a mistake. Because some of those primetime games are godawful.

Sure, some games are awful. But they can't control that. The more time slots they have, the more viewers they get. This is not rocket surgery.
