I do love lower decks, but they could have pretended to have a plot for S3E1. The whole episode was just easter eggs for other trek. It felt like you were just walking around a Star Trek convention for 30 minutes.
I was actually glad they resolved the cliff hanger so quickly. I was worried it would drag on and take away from the 'alien of the week' approach of LD.
I'm slightly worried about this for SNW season 2 and Una. Trek writers have a nasty habit of gravitating to the overarching story season long arc.
So...the SNW and Lower Decks crossover? It appears to be going well...

We don't yet know about how Ensign Boimler feels about Spock, but actor Jack Quaid is over the moon about Ethan Peck.
Quaid teases what's in store in the upcoming crossover event between the animated Star Trek: Lower Decks and the live-action Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in an interview with EW. And it sounds like he had a good time with Peck.
"It was great. That cast was awesome," Quaid, who voices Boimler on Lower Decks, says. "Ethan Peck and I have a bromance for the ages. We call it Spoimler: Spock and Boimler. It's amazing, but that whole cast is so friendly and welcoming and cool. We just had a ball, and we got to be directed by Jonathan Frakes. So what could be better?"
At first I didn't like the season premiere of Lower Decks, but then I remembered these aren't supposed to be the main characters in Starfleet stories. These are supposed to be the junior officers who are kept in the dark and do the tedious minutia of running a starship. Once that clicked it was a good episode for me.

Yup. Pretty much exactly that.
My only issue at the moment is that these guys are not supposed to be 'The Best and Brightest' but rather just run-of-the-mill Starfleet officers, but they're being built up as 'special.'
I suppose that was inevitable, but overall I love Lower Decks, everything about it is great and I cant wait for the crossover SNW episode.
Holy sweet hell what a joy it is to actually enjoy Star Trek again and actually be actively looking forward to new episodes as opposed to simply dreading each new offering with the thought of "what fresh Hell is this?"

I don't think they're special at all. Hell the season premiere had them running around for absolutely no reason at all. I thought it was totally fitting.

We got to see the lower deck crew flail about with half-ass plans and fail at almost every opportunity, and then we got to see a montage about how Captain Freeman was saved by competent Starfleet officers (which probably would have been a multi-part episode in any other series), an epic adventure summed up in 30 seconds. This episode may have been the MOST lower deck episode of the entire series so far

I finally watched Strange New Worlds. How can this show be so good, and Discovery is unwatchable.
There were some dull episodes throughout the season, but I just finished episode 10 tonight and it was one of the best Star Trek episodes of all time. The preceding Gorn episode was excellent as well.
As for the cast, It felt like it took the whole season for any chemistry to develop and for the show to find its footing. That's kind of how Star Trek has always unfolded.

Well....welcome to the present, what kept you?
Overall I think I recall one dull episode of SNW, but yeah, its no secret that I loved it. That show...I think I said that SNW and Lower Decks breathed life into the dying embers of Star Trek.
I really like Lower Decks, but that was like 'Life Support' for Star Trek, SNW was like re-birth. There is real, genuine hope now.
I hope that they can give SNW a really good, long run.
