No. It's not. While Ryan Nugent Hopkins once scored 70 points while playing a tonne of time on the other wing with McHobo and Der Deutsche Gretzky—NOT at centre. He will never manage to get anywhere near that number again on his own line. So far this year he has recorded two even strength points—both assists, and both his only points tallied away from the Oilers top two players.

Does everything have to be about the Oilers with Textcritic?

TBF I thought exactly the same thing because, when the 6x6 contracts were signed, we were assured those would all look great very soon. Well, one did.

The point was not about Nugent-Hopkins, nor the Oilers. The point was that while sometimes these long-term gambles on young players work out great, other times they do not work out all that well. MacKinnon is an example of the former, Nugent-Hopkins an example of the latter—which player will Hirschier or Keller turn out to be?

Yeah, okay if you leave out last year, and the next 2 years, also the year before last where he put up a 65 point pace and the first year of his contract when he put up 24 goals then yeah the contract hasn't been great.

The next two? We'll see. But yeah, being paid way more than other similar RFAs for the majority of the contract isn't great. I suggest you look at what similar guys made for similar terms in 2014. Or what, say, a PPG guy like Scheifele signed for 3 years later.

I'd take Nugent-Hopkins on his current contract without hesitation.

Well, when you're in year 5 of a 6 year deal that covered a player from ages 22 through 27, it would be one hell of an indictment if that weren't the case.

Did that rule take a players 3rd year into consideration? Or did it base it off the 3 years. The year 3 progression might have a significant impact on their projections. I'm not familiar with the the 10 points per million rule, is it a simple ratio of points to salary? Is their a site that has this information available?

O.64 PPG gets you $50 million now?
I get that it's barely less than Keller, but still.

Just going to pose this question, considering inflation , would you prefer Hischier at 7.25 for seven years at age 21 or Backlund for 5.4 for 6 years at age 29?
Please consider inflation, offensive upside/impact and #1 C potential.
Personally, I think Hischier signed a very fair contract.

There is a big difference between the 3 and 7 year deal.

Nico.
My comment is simply that, we need to recognize a gamble. The Oilers gambled on 3 players at 6x6 (or 7 in RNH’s case). I’d say they lost on Eberle, maybe broke even on RNH, and would have won on Hall had they kept him.
