Hunter Brzustewicz is going to be the best player in the deal.

No disrespect intended, but let's wait until the Flames draft their first and third/fourth.

The only issue I have with scouts (no offence intended) is that if they were so good at their job, they would be able to pretty accurately identify all the stud NHL players from Rounds 2 onwards. They have a pretty ordinary hit rate in the 1st round as well.

This is where modelling comes in I believe. Comparing a set of data for that player in that year vs those similar players at their respective points in time.

To say that some McKeen scout likens him to Alex Goligoski/Nick Leddy rather than Adam Fox is a poor assessment because you would also need to identify what that certain scout's perspective was on Adam Fox at that point in his development and I can assure you that no one was calling him a Norris Trophy capable 1D.

At this point in his development- Hunter Brewman is modelling at the same level as Adam Fox, Quinn Hughes etc. so until he falls off that trajectory, I think that's what we should hope for! Keeps things exciting!

Why are we downplaying a junior player having a historic season in his league in D+1 year?

Let's not compare the kid to Adam Fox.

For the record, Brzustewicz is also an American and is also unsigned... meaning he could very will be the next Adam Fox... in every way.

^InternationalVillager: Get what you're saying for sure. I love the kid and the potential and the deal overall, don't get me wrong. Brock has been wrong before, but he also has an excellent read on the OHL. Let's definitely hope Hunter Brewski Bruce is closer to Adam Fox than Goligoski; I wouldn't even be too disappointed if he turns out to be a right-handed Goligoski clone. If Goligoski turns out to be Brz's floor, think Connie et al would be pretty dang happy tbh.

But, he’s already achieved the life long dream of playing for the “Rangers”

Just making a bold prediction.

Though it would be even bolder to claim that the third/fourth will be the best player in the deal.

Does anyone know how many of his assists this year are primary ones?

If he turns into a top 4 defensemen it is a clear win, doesn't need to be a Fox

If Brzustewicz has slavic origins (looks pretty Polish to me), then it would be pronounced as Brjew (soft J)-stehv-ich. Polish language rules say to pronounce every single letter, unlike Germanic languages which have silent letters in various words. The Z should not be skipped, and it sounds like a soft J like how the French say it, not the hard J in English.

I guess it comes down to how the player himself wants to say it. Gaudreau used to pronounce his name as Gooodrow, and I remember a few clips of french interviewers calling him out on the pronunciation.

The team will have to interview Brzustewicz so he can have the final say and solve this mystery once and for all.

The most impressive stat to me is that he has 50 even strength points in 47 games...which would rank him 3rd in OHL d-man scoring if you just took his even strength points.

Very impressive to me because generally when a defenseman had gaudy numbers it's on the back of PP scoring, and that's not the case here with Brzustewicz at all.

Just for that I'd interrupt them(just the french guys), and make them repeat it or or keep saying "what???" if they were addressing me.

Even when a player tells you the pronunciation of their name, it could still change years later.

Lydman.

We never really know someone.

Conroy has already had that discussion with him, he will sign with the Flames.
