With the rise in minimum wage, tipping 10% is more than enough now

With an 8% tip out you are removing more than minimum wage added to their Salary if you previously tipped 15%

I thought you were one of the people advocating for paying less tip now that minimum wage is much higher? I might be misremembering.

I also didn't think tip-out was that high. I thought it was 5%, so then a 10% tip would be split evenly between kitchen and server. That seems fair to me.

I am aware I do have a bias against servers though - the food industry as a whole is a massive black hole of unpaid taxes between servers not claiming their tips as incomes to business using zapping technology to reduce sales tax remittances.

I stand by 10% as reasonable now given the rise in wages.

Since this thread has gone full tipping debate my question is why does a server deserve more money than a grocery store worker or cleaner etc? I agree with living wages so why the onus on making sure the college student bringing your beer and burger gets $30/hour and not the single mother stocking your grocery store shelves?

They are all underpaid for the cost of living in Canada. Debating between individual jobs or defending your stance to give servers $5 or $10 is all a waste of air.

Disagree on the all underpaid part. A server making $60,000 ($30/hour) with several thousand of that undeclared tax free isn't underpaid. That's my point, there are many jobs that don't meet cost of living where the workers don't get the benefit of tax free cash.

And rise in menu pricing. I'm not tipping more because you are now charging more... I'm tipping more for better service.

It felt so much more invasive and frustrating that way - and given I have surface parking and am one of the first cars in the lot, it was rather unsettling watching from my balcony all those dummies passing within 10 feet of my car. My lease is up June 1, and given how they've already gotten their way but still keep going with it meaning this won't stop anytime soon, I think I'm going to move...

It’s because there’s a counter protest blocking 17th ave now. They gather every Saturday at 1pm or so at 17th and 8th st?

They’re doing it again tomorrow. Called Community Solidarity YYC. They have a twitter account where they post updates.

So shouldn't we be focusing our vaccine passport systems (eg. federal ones) on immunocompromised people versus unvaccinated people?

Follow the science right?

(I'm being facetious and don't think we should actually do that, but any remaining restrictions are preposterous from my perspective).

Sorry, how many times have you shown proof of vaccine this week?

My sister lives on 15 Ave SW and she said they meet at Central Memorial Park by the Sheldon Shumir Center. Sometimes they go down her street as well and she could not get her car out of the parkade.

Actually, I had to show it twice. Once at the Jack Singer and once at ATP. Masks were still required as well. This is within the last week.

You happened to go to one of the few businesses still doing either, twice, but I’m sure my point still stands just fine, as I’m also aware it’s still a government-mandated thing on flights.

Point being, it’s not really something that affects our day to day anymore. So trying to discredit it seems wildly pointless. I don’t even think about it.

Next week I will need to, to get on plane. Still confused why that’s a thing.
