Every year people moan and complain about how crappy NHL has become and then buy it anyway. Just stop. Hell, I bought it for almost 20 years straight before stopping for the last 5. Wait for the next gen consoles and see if they do anything to make it better.

I don't know if I would go that far. I have really enjoyed the eliminator mode for teams of 1 or 3. I also love that you can play ones locally now with two buddies- should make for a fun drinking game.
Gameplay isn't hugely different, but I like the new commentary and there are upgrades to goalie animations, shooting animations, and puck pick ups. They are slight improvements, but that's all I really expect for a yearly sports franchise.
It seems like too many people expect drastic changes year over year when that just is never the case. It's still a really fun game- at least to me.

I've read you can fire coaches but they're all fake names. And line chemistry depends on what type of coach you have.
There's also a trade finder that automatically shows you counter-proposals from teams when you put somebody on the block.

Watching teenagers play video games is not my thing, but to each their own. With more and more younger people watching e-sports, it must be impacting traditional sports attendance.

One thing that was neat about the Fortnite World Cup it was an open competition and everyone who owned the game was able to compete and try to make it to the finals. It wasn't just a who's who of streamers.

If you're interested in the history of video games, CBC has a series available online called The Artists: The Pioneers of the Pixels.
Quote:
The Artists is the story of the creators that were at the forefront of the early video game revolution. It explores the first three decades of video game history.
|
They're short 10ish minute documentaries about the people and companies behind the games from the 70s-90s.

Control is releasing on August 27th. The new game from the studio behind Quantam Break and Alan Wake. I'm excited to give it a try this month.

Anyone played the Combat Mission games? I'm interested to get into them, but they look quite pricey. Worth it?

Humble Bundle has a Crusader Kings II bundle. I wasn't sure if it was worth paying $20 for the top tier, but being a Paradox game, of course buying all of the DLC would set you back nearly $300, so I'd say it's a bargain for a strategy fan.

Are you talking about the super old PC games from WW2?

More gimmicks. The only thing they have to improve is the A.I. which has been terrible from the start. Computer controlled players are still beyond idiotic in their decisions and play.

That's just the franchise mode features that were added which is what btimbit asked. I don't know about player A.I. but goalie A.I. is supposed to be improved this year.

I’m shocked people still buy them. Honest to God I can’t believe it. It is essentially an $80 roster update. People are sheep.

Eh, every couple years I pick up whatever the latest one is when it's on sale for $15 in March to mess around with simming in Franchise mode for 3-5 seasons. I'm surprised people buy it full price and still actually play the hockey a lot though -- I mess around playing the games a bit and it's still fundamentally exactly the same as it was like 7 or 8 years ago, which is crazy.
