His WHL rights are owned by the Silvertips, I wonder if that is an option.

Between him and D'Artagnan Joly, we've got the best-named prospects in hockey.

Found one write up on him:

Quote:
Committed to Arizona State University, Koumontizs spent this season dominating the Minnesota High-school league. He’s short, but solid and doesn’t look small on the ice. He’s got explosive offensive capabilities any just needs to learn how to stay consistent.

There’s a lot of development needed in his game, and he could stand to work with a skating coach to improve his edge work, but Koumontzis is the kind of player you want to take a flier on at the end of the draft.

Forget how to embed tweets:
@chrismpeters

Calgary took Edina's Demetrios Koumontzis at 108. Long-range prospect committed to Arizona State, but I had one scout who raved about him as a competitor and thought he had most offensive upside among Minnesota high schoolers this year despite others getting more attention.

(Peters has a good pulse on American prospects)

How about we avoid making rash, over-heated responses so that we don’t look like the idiots who freaked out on CP when we drafted Jankowski and Gaudreau?

Fourth round strategy is pretty much put a blind fold on and throw a dart and hope it hits the board somewhere.

Arizona State seems like a really odd choice for a hockey prospect. Surprisingly it is a division I school (only one west of Denver). Seems like most prospects choose one of the 40+ schools in the upper northeast.

After reading the positive comments on him at the Rookie development camp I thought this was a worthy bump.

Koumontzis was one of 13 players cut today by USA hockey from the summer development camp.

Matthew Phillips also didn't even get an invite after tearing it up in the dub. Hopefully these two guys can prove em all wrong.

Arizona State is getting an early start to their season by playing in a small tournament in China this week.

It is a five team tournament. In addition to the Sun Devils, the tournament also features Kunlun Red Star of the KHL and 3 VHL teams (2 from China and one from Russia). The VHL is the Russian equivalent of the AHL.

https://thesundevils.com/news/2019/7...sance-cup.aspx

ASU opened the tournament with a 5-3 win over Red Star and dropped the second game 5-4 in OT. They played their third game of the tournament early this morning.

After being cut from the US World Jr summer camp last week, Koumontzis hopped on a plane and joined the Sun Devils in Beijing.

Koumontzis made his season debut for the team in today's game. He scored the opening goal of the game and later set up ASU's second. The game went to OT and the Sun Devils won 3-2.

Pretty good start to the preseason for Koumontzis.

If he makes the NHL, the Flames could be Demetrios and the Gladiators.
