Things are starting well!
Quote:
Lille coach Christophe Galtier has hit out at new Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho for poaching two members of his coaching team and warned that sporting director Luis Campos is going nowhere.
"Everyone has their own way of doing things," he said, before adding sarcastically: "But it's really classy. Really classy to act like that."
Of Campos, Galtier added: "Luis is 200% invested in the project and I don't see a 1000th of a wish to look elsewhere. We're close and looking forward."

Would Mourinho winning 3 trophies at Tottenham be considered a failure also?

can we stop calling the Community Shield a trophy please? Cringeworthy. It's a glorified friendly in which Mourinho got to play against a fluke champion thanks to the cup win of another manager. Great achievement.
EL win was fluky too (remember that Celta game? Lol) ... and necessary because he had bombed the league.

Yeah I guess it didn't come across with my intended sarcasm here. Obviously if he wins anything at Spurs he's going to be lauded. We'd kill for that level of failure!
And yeah, the Community Shield is just a glorified friendly. But it was so embarrassing when Mourinho had the players hold up 3 fingers as though they'd won some incredible treble that I had to count it!

38 games does not prove a fluke, despite it being their first, and I'd put the CS in the same tier as the Carabou.
Regardless, with the squad he won with, it was impressive.
Especially the second place finish.

Not Premier League but awesome nonetheless.

EuroMillions lottery winner Colin Weir has completed his takeover of Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle and said he intends to hand over ownership to supporters in 2020.
Weir -- a lifelong Thistle fan -- has bought a majority shareholding and a holding in land at Firhill Stadium, where his team play, but will give the land back to the club.
The 71-year-old will also give his 55% shareholding to a fan group that is in development, with the free transfer of shares taking place "no later than March 30 2020," according to Weir.

Good win for Jose to kick things off, but obviously some things to work on. Nice to see a little more from Dele and Son looked sharp. Hard to judge against WHU however, as that team looked horrible. The score was closer than the game really was IMO.

Could we see both North London managers sacked in the same week? Arsenal already 1-0 down to Southampton. Emery surely doesn't have much rope left.

More VAR controversy as Palace have one wiped out for a very questionable foul.

I'll have to see the replay because that goal looked totally fine to me.

It just seems to me the definition of "clear and obvious" is rather inconsistent. I always thought VAR should be limited to specifically offside, penalties and red cards, things where there's not much if any judgement involved, where it's more straightforward. Now every aspect of a play is subject to debate it seems, and that seems to be what is causing the consistent inconsistency.

Plus it takes all the fun out of it. The players and fans dont know whether or not to celebrate.

Yeah nothing like scoring and then just....waiting to see what the scoreboard says. I also worry over time the refs are just gonna stop reffing and letting VAR handle it all so it's not on them. Nothing better than the ability to escape blame.

Pretty tough call right now between Mane and Sterling for best winger in the world, both just balling out this year.

I think that VAR should be a playback at an agreed upon speed (maybe half-speed?) and if you can make a determination from there, great. If not, call stands and that's the end of it. No more players offside by a mm or that kind of stupidity.

I don't think the speed of the replay matters, if it's "clear and obvious" then within 20-30 seconds of being initiated a decision should be made since it should be, of course, "clear and obvious". If you need two minutes then it's obviously not.

I dont think 'clear and obvious' can remain as the mandate. Its too vague. Same with the nonsense surrounding hand-balls, its become too subjective.
When you watch the VAR and they're breaking out the geometry kit and solving for the Coriolis effect to calculate offside then its not 'clear and obvious.'
Because, of course 'clear and obvious' is what you'd expect the Ref to get right along with his assistants.
And frankly, I dont think they're having this much trouble with this in other countries.
