First off the guy is only 30 years old. I mean go ahead, make your statement of fact that hes suddenly not a top 6 forward anymore. Who has looked like a top 6 forward on this team? Tkachuk? Maybe Lindholm? Timbits post didn't include Backlund so Ill add his totals:

Last 5 games,

Johnny is -10, 1 assist, with 9 shots.

Monahan is -6 , 1 goal and 1 assist with 16 shots.

Lindholm is -7, O points , with 12 shots.

Tkachuk is -2 , 1 goal and 1 assist , 13 shots

Backlund is -2, 1 assist, 11 shots.

So pile on Backlund I guess. Are the rest of the team playing like top 6 forwards and showing him up for the sudden top 6 fraud he is? Truth is the entire team is in a rut.

Other than being snakebitten I still see Backlund playing reasonably well. Certainly better than many on the team in this recent slide. You actually think his shooting percentage is going to stay at 5%? I don't.

So no, I won't just accept your word that Backlund is suddenly not a top 6 in this league. I guess we shall agree to disagree and see what happens going forward.

Indeed. Because even in season's past, I feel Backlund wasn't a top 6 centre as well; he's a miscast due to the lack of centre depth in the organization. Hence why this team hasn't had a successful run in the playoffs for so long except in '15 where they beat the Canucks, but then got creamed by the Red Wings the following round.

Yup, Gaudreau has not been good enough. Worst 5 game stretch as a flame possibly.

The other guys have been not good, but not throw in the towel awful.

Or maybe all the other guys aren't that great when Gaudreau is not going

This is most annoying thing for this team now. Every good chance goes wide, or high or blocked. Shoots are soft. Look those passes. 95% of them are bad pass to skate, behind, blind, to nobody or just dump to centre ice.
They need Hartley type practice. Long skate, scrimmage, and pass and shoot. Peters type practice like line rushing against nobody or D is not giving them much.

Stutzle and Lundell in the mix too.

WJC season is rapidly approaching

Yeah giving away assets at their lowest value possible is smart.

Sometimes you just have to move on. Jankowski looks like he doesn't care. Not a player I would feel bad about moving on from. Reminds me of Colborne

I wouldn’t feel bad moving on from Jankowski either.

But giving him away for nothing doesn’t help the team. It would be stupid.

Kid is a big centre with decent skating and skills. Yeah he’s having an off year but players with those attributes are usually worth something.

I don’t see him actively harming the team. He’s not being scratched every game. You keep the kid until he rebounds a bit at least.
