I used a set of Mizuno mx11s with graphite shafts, an earlier version of Dion's new sticks for 10 years, and they were great. I now use Taylor Made Speedblades with graphite shafts, which are fantastic clubs. Both are regular flex. For aging golfers with lower swing speeds like me, graphite offers more distance and forgiveness. They helped my game. The trade off is less feel and feedback, which I'm fine with for my mid cap game.

Graphites are my choice due to the lighter shafts they offer. I'm also 57 years old and don't have the swing speed that some of the younger golfers here might have. I have another set of irons (Taylormade RAC HT's) that are graphites and have served me well.

I have tried steel shafts but didn't like the vibrations you got from miss hit shots.

I would go the used route especially if she's looking to try out the sports. Used clubs are much cheaper than new. In fact we a used club store in Calgary "Golf Traders"

I've bought clubs from them in the past. The problem now is that they charge in US dollars the exchange rate can up the price considerably.

Golftraders has great selection, but their pricing is a bit high for used clubs. You can do better off the classifieds on golfwrx.

Watch Golf Traders pricing on drivers and woods.
Discontinued can be purchased cheaper new at Golftown n the spring.
That being said,Golf Traders have awesome pricing on irons and putters.

Been doing my grips for years and this is the first one for me. Just a bad grip maybe? I do use a lot of wraps under my grips but still, just chalking this one up as a minor annoyance.

Anyone have any golf shoes they recommend? Not sure what to wear this year. Had a look in golftown and they all look like rocket ships. Horrendous!

Ecco world class. They take a while to break in but they're amazing.

I wonder if the grip got dried out. For me I use a midsize grip with 3 wraps.

I agree that the newer drivers and woods can be expensive. That said if you don't mind ones that are 6-7 years old you can get a good price. I use a 07 Taylormade Burner Draw drive that I purchased for $49 in excellent shape.

This news is from a year ago but is pretty funny so thought I would share:

A member of an exclusive Sydney golf club had his membership suspended after his girlfriend was caught sun-baking topless by the lap pool

Actually this kind of ties in with the discussion on how to get more youngsters into the game. If you want more young men to get into golf maybe allow young women to go topless at the golf club haha.

Reminds me of a few summers ago where a buddy of mine was walking his dog after a game of golf. He bumps into an attractive woman who had a dog similar to his and they began to talk about their dogs. After a few minutes of conversation she said "It's okay, you can look up!" He turned 10 shades of red and walked away quickly

I'm not sure why Canyon Meadows would expose their greens like that. It's still way too early in my opinion. Still negative overnight lows forecasted for the next week.

My guess is most places start to open mid-April.
