One of the company’s two remaining principal engineers suggests it's because people are tired of his behaviour. They show him a Google Trends search that shows his search popularity is 10% of what it was a while ago. They found no evidence of the algorithm being biased against him.

He didn't like that so he fired them.

Last year, before Musk took over, the FTC fined Twitter $150 million for breaking its agreement. Another breach would almost certainly result in millions of dollars in additional fines and a flurry of news coverage — just the thing, perhaps, to get the views on Musk’s tweets trending up again.

I’m an active user on Twitter (over 12 years) and I’ve never sent that many DMs that whole time and it’d probably take me three days to top 20 tweets.

And "monthly revenue from Twitter's top 1,000 advertisers plummeted by more than 60% from October through January 25, from around $127 million to just over $48 million."
