Holy crap I had to look up who Robertson is and who he plays for.
I haven't followed the NHL season this poorly since early 2000s.

All three of them deserve to be finalists. Minnesota, Dallas and Carolina are often overlooked in general.

I like how none of them were even first round picks. Props to those teams for procuring those players.

Kaprisov will obviously win, but Nedeljkovic's 93.2% is nothing to sneeze at. He had to outplay two other goalies for the job. Jason Robertson had to go from barely making the lineup to being the team's MVP. He might've gotten 70+ points in a full season.

It's obviously going to be Kaprizov but it annoys me that the guy can play half a dozen seasons of professional hockey at a high level and then come in and be judged on the same playing field as a guy like Robertson who played a total of 60 AHL games before jumping up to the show. Even Nedeljkovic, who isn't as egregious as Kaprizov, started NHL games three different NHL seasons before this one, initially in 2016-2017.

One of these guys is a real rookie. The other guys are seasoned veterans. They should really change the eligibility criteria based on when you started playing pro hockey.

I can’t see how it cannot be Kaprizov

Nedeljkovic is a great goalie but he didn’t play enough. Robertson is a great player but he’s the third best player on his line.

Kaprizov was by far the best Wild and made them a good playoff team

I agree. Cut off should be 22 for playres 23 for goalies to start off with. The limit for players playing 22 games can stay but it should be like 10 for goalies.

Just change the definition of "Major Professional League" to include the AHL, KHL, SHL, Liiga, etc. and then raise the cutoff for games to 80 for skaters (keep it where it is for goalies). Then if you've played more than 1 full season of pro hockey somewhere else before getting to the NHL, you're not a rookie. Problem solved.

This was our discussion during Stone v. Gaudreau for the Calder. Stone had played 2 full seasons of pro and had 23 NHL games before his "rookie" season. Plus some NHL PO games. Gaudreau had 1 NHL "last game of the season" game. Of course, then Ekblad won it as an 18 year old right out of junior and made it a moo point.

One of that all time great Calder winners was Sergei Makarov, who won the Calder when even before he played a game he was one of the 5 best players in the world over the previous decade.

The 7 year pro wins rookie of the year… is this the most seasoned ‘rookie’ to win the award?

Well, no. I’d say Makarov and Stastny were more seasoned.

Well that’s what I’m asking, thanks for providing the information from a time before I existed/could speak.
