Lou Lamoriello named Islanders' President of Hockey Operations
been rumored for a while now
https://theathletic.com/363029/2018/...ey-operations/
Quote:
Lou Lamoriello will be running the Islanders’ hockey operations in a matter of days, sources confirmed to The Athletic on Monday. The former Devils and Leafs general manager has been rumored to be coming in, either as president of hockey operations, GM or both to replace Garth Snow, and now it’s a matter of when and not if.
Two sources also confirmed an online report from the French-language website Hockey30 that Lamoriello met with John Tavares last week, clearly in anticipation of assuming control of the Islanders. Tavares, as you all know, will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after playing out the final year of his contract with the Isles in 2017-18.
Where this leaves Snow, the Isles GM for the previous 12 seasons, is unclear. He and head coach Doug Weight arrived back on Long Island on Monday after spending last week at the World Championships along with Eric Cairns, director of player development, and other front-office staffers. Snow’s...

Amazing Snow made it that long.
9 playoff misses
3 1st round exits
1 2nd round exit
Reads like the Flames rate of success, and we've had 3 different GM's since Snow took over in NY

Desperate last stab to keep Tavares on board?
edit: duh, it says it right in the quoted text.

Oh yeah, and F off Lou.
Hopefully he doesn't come riding in his white horse and extend Tavares like some sort of hero. I want to see that play out.

I'd much rather have JT in the long island over any Western Conference team outside of Calgary.

That is exactly what will happen, not that I think Tavares was leaving anyhow.

So the thread about this on HF is loaded with idiots who actually believe Lou is acting on behalf of the Leafs and not the Islanders. You can't make that level of stupidity up folks!

Tavares needs to get his family into witness protection, pronto.

Had an idea!

Crap. This is obviously being done to keep Taveres which is disappointing from a Flames fan perspective. Not many times you sit with $8 million + in cap space and a premier player potentially on the open market to throw that money at.

I'd rather Tavares stay in NYI. The chances of us getting him don't exist, and as long as Garth Snow is GM, they could get anyone they want and still suck. If Tavares goes to a team in the west, that would suck, or even a team like Boston or the Rangers as they'd actually be dangerous with him

I love laughing at HF so I read this and went to check it out. 155 replies in the thread there on the topic, not a single one that says even close to what you claimed, only a single post that said (sarcastically) maybe Tavares met with Lou about the Leafs. So apparently you can make that level of stupidity up lol

I’m just amazed that Lou Lamoriello is frickin’ 75 years old and still has the ability and the energy to be starting a new job as an NHL GM. I know a few 75 year olds that are doing well if they can just remember all the grandkids’ names.

I thought the same thing but didn't want to say anything. There was nothing like that on the thread on HF so don't know what he imagined he saw.

He gained a lot of goodwill in the Islanders organization at the start of his tenure by convincing Garth Snow to retire from hockey. One of his best moves as GM.

I'm surprised Flames fans are disappointed. This is good news if it keeps Tavares out east as him playing in Calgary is fantasy land. Has to be close to the end for Snow. A GM has to have more in his resume than just being good at fleecing the Alberta teams on trades.
