Yeah like the ten commandments, right?
You know that one list most Christians talk and prosletize about? The ones posted in many facilities across North America?

Ok then, give it to me straight, of the American White Jesus bible, which parts are the ones that are a guide for how humans can live a good life and which parts can be discarded as rubbish and not to be believed, exactly.

because I don't know.

The gospels are the fundamental teachings of christianity and typically focus on loving oneself, others and god. To this day I still have a lot of respect for much of the content in the gospels. The old testament is less essential and christians have more freedom to pick and choose the parts they like about it.

You know how atheists always like to yammer on about how biblically illiterate most Christians are? I guess, we are seeing the other side here.

Less essential? Pick and Choose? Exactly where does it say that? I mean can you point me to anything in the new testament that makes those suggestions, or is this simply something that your denomination has decided is the facts?

I have no denomination and have been more interested in esoteric religious concepts of late (satanims and black cube of saturn worship).

Though the old testament didn't exist in it's current form back in Jesus time, he did make it pretty clear that his direct teachings are what mattered the most. How exactly that gets interpreted is pretty murky and there's been a lot of different takes on it, but pretty much all christians will agree that it's ok to eat shellfish and wear mixed fabrics.

Sure

You just have to ignore the little fact that I quoted about 5 verses directly from the Bible.

You got me there

If you are really that interested to know, then perhaps you should pick up a Bible and read it to find out.

Yes. Quoted five verses from texts that are NOT Gospels in response to a discussion about the Gospels. How clever of you.

not to get into anyone else's fight but the Gospels quote Jesus on the Old Testament

The Scripture cannot be broken (John 10:35)

Until Heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the law, until all is accomplished (Matthew 5:18)

As far as the Gospels are concerned the Old Testament was/is still law, now if you will excuse me I have to go thrash my slave to within an inch of their life.

"Law" in the sense of raw material in need of much further explanation and correct application. Moreover in this particular context it is additionally helpful to understand what Jesus meant when he said that the law "would be accomplished." I suspect it doesn't mean what you think it means.

Jesus quoted a tonne of Scripture, but then also instructed his own ethic: "You have heard that it was said, but I tell you ..."

Because of, at a minimum, what is stated in Mark 7:19 and Acts 10:9-23.

Thing about the Old Testament and religion is it allows any and all amounts of wack doodlry, I have no idea what Jesus meant, don't really care that much frankly, but I know full well idiots calling themselves preachers will find some crap in Leviticus to justify what ever nastiness they wish to preach, it's the nature of man unfortunately.

Of course, but that's another matter altogether, and beyond what is being discussed here.

Well whatever, to a heathen like myself the gospels and the bible, both testaments are the same, like a holy trinity.

Picking and choosing parts that fit your narrative weakens your argument, not you personally, I mean in a general sense.

A real Christian would support everything in the whole Bible, not just the parts they like.

I’m not frankly, for the most part it is rubbish, imo.

So you get to decide what makes someone a real christian. What are you the pope?

It was just a suggestion, not a gospel or commandment
