If both announcements are happening at the same time does that mean the GM didn't get to pick his coach?

I am fairly sure that one of the conditions of sale of the Carolina Hurricanes was a clause ensuring that Rod Brind'Amour would have a job for life within the organization.

I wonder if Rod is still the Bod or if he let himself go in retirement? Good luck for him and Waddell but it's hard to imagine this ending well for them.

In today's NHL, I think it's really important that your head coach has a sick set of abs

Also, I bet that during Brind'Amour's playing career he had a really great Corsi REL

Nope. He retired and started working for the Canes. He had one year as the Director of Player Development. Then, he became an Assistant Coach the following year and has held that position until now.

They haven't made the playoffs since he was still playing.

Sounds like he’s on the same career trajectory as dougie risebrough.

Hopefully he gets promoted to GM next year and Treliving can do a 10 player swap where we absolutely fleece them. One can only dream.

Steve Smith is staying on as an asst. with Brindamour.

One less possibility for Peters.

Good. Personally didn't want to see him (back) in Calgary

Peters noted in his interview with Dreger today on TSN that he and Treliving will take their time and wait for the NHL season to end to see what may shake out. Noted that there were people they wanted to talk to and people that have expressed interest.

I wonder if a few of those may be coaches still on a bench somewhere who may see their current jobs coming to an end shortly. Could even be one beside him right now in Mike Yeo.
