Don't care if they win the lotto as it means a western rival hasn't.
Don't care if they pick Brady as I think the only reason he's getting so much hype is the last name. Good prospect sure, but nothing I will lose sleep over.
It is a sunk cost overall and not worth stressing over. I think Hamonic was better the 2nd half of the year and is the type of player they don't have enough of.
I'm not thrilled with the price paid but what's done is done.
The fall of a random ball won't cause me to think differently.

Not that this is possible, but I think Brady Tkachuk is wildly overrated as a product of how good Matty is.

If they win the lottery I say "that's too bad, them's the breaks".
If they don't win they ain't getting Tkachuk.
I think it was worth the price. Look at what happened to Toronto without Hamonic (who they wanted). Edmonton wanted Hamonic too. I think if you draft a guy 12th and he turns into a good shutdown defensive defenceman who can pass well and isn't slow, that's a good draft pick. Calgary essentially just accelerated that pick.

Its probably best not to think of that pick as ours and move on regardless of the outcome.
No point in dwelling on it.

If the pick doesn't win the lottery, it was a fair trade. The players that will be available at 12 (barring fallers) are not that good this year. Farabee/Kotkaniemi/Ty Smith types + some seconds are fair prices to pay for top 4 defensemen.
It's not a huge win of a trade like you want it to be but it's just fair.
If the pick wins the lotto, even #3, it's worse than Hall/Larsson, Weber/Subban, Forsberg/Erat.
It'll be the type of trade that damages the team's psyche more than it actually hurts them on the ice (the damage is already done, the pick is gone, but it's going to hurt a lot more if Svechnikov is an Islander because of it)
I am fully expecting the lottery to be
1 Oilers
2 Flames
3 Hawks
though

Hopefully they win the lottery so it pushes down Vancouver / other rivals who are hanging out in bottom 5.

Islanders (Flames') First Round Pick
Don’t care. I would love for the top 3 picks to go to an Eastern conference team; it keeps those players away from the Oilers and Canucks, and pushes down Oilers and Canucks back in the draft

I'm still cheering for the flames / islanders to win it. Means none of the Canadian teams get him.

I'm not too worried about the lottery pick as the chances are very slim they will win and in a way it would aid the Flames as it would mean their rivals didn't win the lottery. It's the multiple 2nd round picks that bum me out the most because the Flames gave up a lot of future organizational depth in that trade. You may not get a franchise player out of a 1st round pick and two 2nd's but you are stunting your development system by not giving yourself the chance to fill cupboards with young players that could turn out to be contributors for the organization down the road.

I'll be sad just like everyone else that the Flames' plan of being in the playoffs this year did not pan out. I'm glad they went for it.
I wish BT had lottery protected it, and surrendered one less pick.

If the Isles win with the Flames pick I'll feel a little embarrassment for the organization (likely because they'll be mocked in the media I think) but that's about it.

Optics be damned! I will take the Isles winning if it drops down the Oilers and Canucks. At this point, it doesn't matter if we "win" the trade.

Won’t care in the least. It’s the Islanders pick and nothing says that if Calgary had kept it they’d be in the same draft position or have the same odds.

I can't help but think Hamonic is hoping that the pick doesn't turn into the 1st overall pick. I doubt he wants to be forever mentioned as the guy that got traded for Dahlin. I've never been a fan of the trade but I've accepted it and Hamonic is a useful player so I don't think the trade's a total bust for the Flames and that the circumstances of the team underachieving was simply bad timing. The GM took a bit of a gamble paying such a steep price and in the first season it didn't pay off but there's still two more seasons or maybe more where it may prove as a worthwhile trade in the long run and obviously a the optics will change depending on what the Islanders do with the picks. I don't think Blues or Penguins fans lost any sleep over the picks their teams gave up for Bouwmeester or Iginla seeing what the Flames ended up getting out of the picks.

The Islanders once took Brett Lindros 9th overall. He was out of the league in two years. Yes, concussions, also terrible player.
Before the draft, they said Jordan Staal was better than Eric. Then they said Jared was actually the best of them all.
The best Sutter was the one who stayed on the farm, not one of the seven who played in the NHL.
Eric has always been the best Staal, Brent is the best Sutter, and Matthew is going to be long remembered as the best Tkachuk.
