Trent Yawney Not Renewed as Assistant Coach in Anaheim
This guy should probably be the front runner for one of the Flames assistant coach jobs (or maybe head coach of AHL team if Huska moves on).
Been an assistant in Anaheim for the last 4 seasons and was in charge of the teams defense and PK.
Over the last 4 seasons Anaheim ranks 1st in the NHL on the PK. Finishing 15th, 1st, 4th, 5th over that time.
Also they are 3rd in the league in overall goals against / game over that same time period. Played a big role in developing the Ducks young d-men like Manson, Montour, Lindholm, Vatanen, & Theodore.
He also coached San Jose to a top 5 PK in 2 out of his 3 seasons as an assistant in that organization.
Former Flame and from Saskatchewan to boot.

Would look good alongside Peters.
Wonder if Rich Preston is also on the chopping block as well.

Did they keep Rich Preston though?

With that much success could he be considered for a head coaching job ? Kind of ironic but the Hurricanes could be a fit. They have a lot of young dmen would he could work with, and would probably be a cheap option for the budget canes.

Why would they let him go given stellar special teams and defensive play? Difference in opinions between the coach and assistant?

Ducks seem intent on making changes but announced Carlyle will be back. Assistants and players on the block I guess

I guess a head or two have to roll but the Ducks will be fine unfortunately.
They have a good young goalie, good young Dcore and plenty of good young forwards.
They also draft and develop quality NHL players year in and year out.
Quite nauseating actually.

They have some good forwards but Getzlaf is slowing down and he's always been the guy that made that team go. I don't see any of their young players that are are going to be able to replace him. They look like they could be at best a Wild type of team that hangs around, makes the playoffs but is no threat to make any noise.

It may not have been the Ducks' choice. Perhaps Yawney is either looking to move on or up?
If he is truly responsible for some of those numbers I hope he doesn't mind riding the side car for a little while longer in a return to Calgary.

Love me some Trent Yawney. Many years ago a buddy and I were at a bar and it was his shtick to tell the ladies he played for the Flames. So I went along. She asked me who I was and I came up with Trent Yawney.
Yeah that didn't work.

Yawney was a Boudreau hire in Anaheim and they had a lot of assistant coaches this year. It could be a case of Carlyle getting rid of a guy who was a holdover from the previous regime.

I still haven't forgiven Yawney for coughing up that puck against Chicago in OT.
Overly harsh? Yeah. Probably. That team was going nowhere anyway.

The Ducks looked anything but "fine" in their unceremonious 2018 playoff flop.

I was at that game. Flames weren't making it out of that series anyway, but it still sucked when that goal went in.

The Ducks should let Carlyle go as well, and promote the head coach from its AHL affiliate ---------------- our friend Mr. Dallas Eakins!!
It would be great if they do that....
