NHL teams will be selling in-ice advertising in the corners
https://twitter.com/user/status/988424758919299072
If that means no advertisements on the jerseys. I'm all for it.

I dont mind so much, its a slippery slope though. I hate the adds in the faceoff circles in European arenas.

sooooooo... what would it cost to put a "E=NG" in one of the corners at rogers place??
to make it less conspicuous, i'm sure we could come up with a logo that looks like a banner!

Celebrated Square Root Day

Damn, not the end of the world, but certainly inching towards the utter chaos of European ice surfaces that make it hard to watch a game.
And lol at corner advertising on the ice negating jersey advertisements. Pro sports are dying on TV and in the stands, they will do everything they possibly can to recoup money through any means necessary in due time.
Just wait.

Watching the Predators game on NBC last night and the ads were absolutely terrible. Every other whistle, instead of talking about the actual game, they would half screen the game and insert a 15 seconds advertisement.
Just an awful viewing experience.

We're not far off. The Flames are literally toying with "this tweet brought to you by..." ads now.
Not surprised about the corner ads, but I don't like it either. Because these won't be the the last. And jersey ads are still coming. They know they will wear fan sentiment down sooner rather than later.
That said, the trapezoid lines are still the most offensive part of that picture.

Not a fan. I think the ice surface should be clean, leave the ads off the ice for me.
Seems like they are going to just milk every penny they can out of the game until it's so corporate looking and expensive to buy tickets that they completely strangle out any new fans accessing the game.

if it's at the dome, I expect them to put a pickup truck right at centre ice.

Toying with? Cortex Business Solutions and Mayfair Diagnostics are already sponsoring a majority of Flames news.

I hate this idea. Ice and jerseys specifically should be free of clutter, and advertising just cheapens both like crazy. I'm annoyed the NHL would allow this too, it's not like they need the money.

It will happen the day it becomes more profitable than the ticket-revenue generated from those rink-side seats that are removed to make room.

Honestly who cares... it really doesn't distract from the viewing experience. I lived in europe for a couple years and watched games in the German league both in person and on TV and your eyes get accustomed to all the on ice advertisement. corner ads arent that bad. and really the faceoff circle ads aren't terrible either.
Jersey ads don't matter and all you need to look at is soccer, they do it tastefully and it tends to not be terrible looking.
in the end it SHOULD make your ticket price cheaper if there are more ads.
