The thing that makes me happiest about that is the photo.

Looks like they have Monahan on his off wing far side for the cross seam one timer (Stamkos/Ovechkin spot but on the other side as a LH shot), Tkachuk as the net front presence (best deflection guy on our team), Hamilton and Gio on their off hand sides also sneaking in for the one timers. With Gaudreau QBing it all from the hashmarks/corner.

This should have been PP1 since day one this season.

Is this GG on the picture? Is he looking after PP now? Practicing against nobody but Smith.

So just the 3.5 months to figure that one out, then. Baby steps, I guess.

Its not even that. Its not even about 'figuring it out.'

Its about trying it. They didnt even try.

I mean, fair enough. I was being a bit wry, but you’re right; boggled my mind, as well. However, I’m extremely excited to see what that unit could do given the man advantage.

The system takes time to implement dammit!

It could be 4-5 seasons before the players finally play 100% to the system.

But it'll be worth it!

This is part of what drives me insane with Gulutzan, he is so adamant that hes the smartest guy in the room that he will not adapt.

'Trying something new' and 'changing things up' and 'adapting' are the same things.

If you do the same thing over and over and over again, guess what? The other guy has figured out how to stop it, or make it less effective, or whatever.

There is no 'Magic Bullet' that works all the time. The NHL is about adaptation.

Look no further than Alexander Ovechkin. He was a one-trick pony for a while, he got figured out and he adapted. Its why hes one of the best players in the League.

Same with Crosby. He was a passer. Then he started shooting. He was a terrible face-off man, then he got good at it. He adapted to how others were playing him.

Our coach doesnt even change up the goddamned penalty killers.

It'll be a totally different group of players! And around and around we go!

They waited until Dave Cameron went to the bathroom and quickly got this in.

Could we maybe one-time the puck every once in a while? That would be great, thanks.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but is this really the first time they've tried putting their 5 best players on the same unit? I mean isn't that one of the first things you try on Day 1?

Gaudreau makes the plays, Monahan shoots, Tkachuk mucks it up in front of the net. And the two best all-around d-men on the back. Duh?

No kidding. It took 50 games to figure out that Hamilton probably should be on the 1st unit.

The original unit that started the season was pretty good so hard to complain but once Versteeg went down to injury it's kind of astonishing that it took the coaching staff this long to try it out.
