I am thinking Perron and Tanner Pearson as well. Lots of overage guys go in the second round as well.

Valimaki is a beast, I’ve seen him play live several times and he’s gonna be a stud. Very complete player with the potential to get better. He flys out there once he gets a couple strides. Valimaki very much outplayed Foote in their series against each other in the first round and it would be nice for the Flames to actually have drafted better than the lightning for once...

Kinda crazy to think that Valimaki was just drafted just a little a year ago, not only made camp, but has been solid so far. He just turned 20.
Noticeable in so many good ways last night against a crazy tough Nashville team that just won the President's Trophy. When he was first drafted, he seemed to be that middle first round typical player that you may see in a few years and might become a #4 at some point.
He has the sign of being much greater. Could he be the steal of the draft after Petterson?

Juuso Valimaki motivated to show Flames were right to not trade him

“It meant a lot to hear they weren’t willing to give me up for any price and obviously you really appreciate and respect that as a player,” Valimaki said. “For me, that also gives me confidence, gives me extra motivation to show them that they’re right. You know, to just put in a little extra work — if you can even do that — to show everyone they made the right decision and I’m worth that.”

I am very curious to see how the playing time gets distributed amongst the defensemen over the final 18 games. Valimaki needs some NHL games, Stone needs some games period and Fantenberg needs more time on the ice with the club.
If everyone healthy, I wonder how Peters sees the pecking order for the playoffs?

I personally feel Peters should just make three pairs i.e.
Kylington - Stone
Fantenberg - Andersson
Valimaki - Prout
And just cycle the pairs for the rest of the season. A kid and a vet on each pair.

I think you want the guys who would play together in the playoffs on one pair? Of the six, Andersson is the only for sure game 1 starter from what I can tell. And Prout and Stone are probably not playing game 1.

Andersson has established himself as a regular and should not be cycled out of the line up IMO

Agree with the concept but any of the regular D could be rested for a game or two IMO.

I don't care who or when they play, but Peters better have our top 6 guys in for our last game against the Oilers.

Personally, I wouldn't mind keeping Brodie in for most games on the right-side third pair (keep Andersson for Gio for now to see if it can stick), and then cycle in Kylington, Valimaki, Fantenberg to see if there is a strong fit there for the bulk of the playoffs.
Occasionally play two of those three guys to give Gio and Hanifin some rest.
Then rest Brodie, Hamonic and Andersson, cycling in Stone every other game or so to give him reps on the right side.
For example:
4 games of
Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Kylington-Brodie
4 games of
Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Brodie
4 games of
Gio-Andersson
Hanifin-Hamonic
Fantenberg-Brodie
Then a rotation of rest for the other 6 games- example a lineup of to give Gio and Brodie a rest:
Hanifin-Andersson
Valimaki-Hamonic
Kylington-Stone

There’s only one game left against the Oilers and it’s the season finale. If we’ve locked up top in the west by that point, rest the regulars. Who cares if that bottom dwelling team picks up a pointless win against our non-regulars. If we win, it’ll be even sweeter.

Why?
Setting aside the fact that there is only one remaining game v. the Oilers, it is Game #82 of the season, and the very definition of utterly meaningless. The Oilers are one of the worst teams in the NHL who will have nothing to play for. If anything, this is the game you want the coaches sitting and resting their best charges in order to be ready for what matters most—Game #1 of the playoffs the following week.

To make up for the Gulutzan years. They can rest the games before.

Why not? The game before is an away game in Anaheim.
Why trot out a B team at home?
Imagine losing to an Oilers team 1 game before the playoffs start? How demoralizing would that be for the team?

You know what's cool? This would be a huge upgrade on some teams:
Valimaki-Andersson
Kylington -Stone
Fantenberg- Prout
