I'm actually pretty optimistic about this. I'm glad we didn't go the Boudreau or Carlyle route. Get a guy whos young and upcoming. At worse case scenario he seems like he really focuses on player development so that should be a positive no matter what ultimately ends up happening with the team.

I'm pretty excited to see what he can do with our defencemen in particular - we have a damn good top 3 compared to what he had to work with in VAN.

I trust Vancouver PD is on high alert for the ensuing riots when this news is announced.

Would have liked Green but let's see what he can do, it will be interesting to see what plans he has for the Power Play, the Pentaly Kill and how he thinks the Flames puck possession can improve.

This is Brad Treliving's first coach hire and I think he will go out of his way to make sure everything is perfect his coach, good number 1 Goalie, top 6 Forward(a couple of them if possible), a top 4 Defence men, I think Treliving, is going to try and get as much of these as possible.

It just comes down to what the Flames can afford. Even in the best case, I really only see us getting a goalie and 1 2nd-line winger. We don't have the cap space this year.

There'll probably be a video link, either on Sportsnet.ca, or on Flames.NHL.com.

This is huge, imo. He was brilliant in the AHL playoffs this year. Perhaps this was the delay and why it took so long to put the pieces together.

LOL @ CP faithful. Everyone too busy joking about the potential nicknames that no one is talking about how huge of a grab this would be for BT.

It will be interesting to see if this guy can get any more out of the core players. All these guys had career highs in either goals or points last season.

-Giordano
-Hamilton
-Gaudreau
-Colborne
-Backlund
-Brodie
-Monahan

Brian Burke's management isn't always decisive when making coaching decisions.

Sad to hear about Randy Carlyle. But our coach isn't going anywhere!

Four weeks later:

Struggling Toronto Maple Leafs fire coach Ron Wilson, hire Randy Carlyle

I wasn't suggesting that they had already interviewed assistants, merely that the discussion of who he would want and who he thinks are good tragets and why, would be a fundamental part of the discussions that Treliving and Gulutzan (and all the candidates) would have had.

Every single one of those guys, with the exception of Giordano should have had a career year last year, simply due to where they are in their career paths.

With the expansion, I think their will be lot's of trades made and players that have had a down season, will be available for less but lets see what BT can do.

Signing Johnny and Sean, shedding some salary, getting a top 6 forward and maybe a top 4 D are the things going forward, how the Flames fare in these things will determine how good the Flames are next season.

Oh for sure totally agree with that, i just don't think they will name the assistants today. I don't think they're that far along yet.
