RIP.

The best shortstop the Jays have ever had.

Sounds like they're giving robo umps a go in spring training this year. Thank goodness they're getting that going finally.

The sooner umpires inconsistent strike zones are gone, the better.

Spring training is meaningless but Alford stealing 2nd, 3rd and home plate is pretty cool.

Alford has many weapons and it would be amazing if he finally breaks out, but the pessimist in me says that after tantalizing us for a few weeks with a glimpse of what he can do, he will end up injured before the end of spring training.

Haha really? That’s so harmless. If they’re that thin skinned they’re not going to survive the season.

Pearson's first spring training inning, he struck out the side. Two swinging and one looking. 12 pitches, 9 for strikes

Sounds like 97-99 mph fastballs and up to 90 mph with the slider.

BTW - for anyone with mlb.tv, the Jays are finally enforcing local blackout rules, so you won't get Blue Jays games on the service in Canada anymore. You'll need to pay more for Sportsnet Now.

I dont mind paying for sn now but I have major issues with not being able to watch the game when I want. At least on the apple tv app last year you could only watch live. Get home late and you are screwed. They post Jay's in 30 later but sometimes not until the next day.

Crappy product in this day and age.

Online you can go back and watch it (at least a few hours later for sure), only problem is if the game is a slated to end at say 8pm and runs over 15 minutes you have then go and watch the segment of show it ran over into separately... its not smart enough to just keep playing. So dumb.

I use Nvidia shield for streaming... If only SN now can make its interface as good as Dazn.. Although we still have to put up with the sub par SN camera work. Sigh

I believe it is 24 hours to watch previous programming.

Baseball America ranks the Jays system 6th, which is pretty impressive considering they've graduated Jansen, Vlad, Biggio and Bichette in the last couple seasons.

Reaaaaaaally excited to follow their farm system this year. Hopefully the injury bug stays away.

Here is the MLBs top 30 Jays prospects listed:

1. Nate Pearson
2. Jordan Groshans
3. Simeon Woods Richardson
4. Alek Manoah
5. Alejandro Kirk
6. Orelvis Martinez
7. Gabriel Moreno
8. Miguel Hiraldo
9. Adam Kloffenstein
10. Anthony Kay
11. Kendall Williams
12. Eric Pardinho
13. Otto Lopez
14. Griffin Conine
15. Leonardo Jimenez
16. Estiven Machado
17. Dasan Brown
18. Rikelvin De Castro
19. Patrick Murphy
20. Reese McGuire
21. Anthony Alford
22. Santiago Espinal
23. Kevin Smith
24. Thomas Hatch
25. Julian Merryweather
26. Will Robertson
27. Riley Adams
28. Sem Robberse
29. Yennsy Diaz
30. Josh Winckowski

There is some studs on that list IMO.

Orelvis Martinez is someone that a lot of these prospect ranking services, scouts and other publications are really high on. He's still very young, 18, but even resident Jays hater Keith Law is very high on him; he has Martinez at 89 in his top 100 (Law also has Nate Pearson (11th) ahead of Casey Mize, Forrest Whitley and Michael Kopech which is pretty incredible):

89. Orelvis Martinez, SS, Toronto Blue Jays

Martinez was just 17 in the GCL but hit 7 homers, good for second in the league behind a 21-year-old org player, while also showing the plate discipline of a player a few years older. Signed in 2018 for $3.5 million, Martinez has impact tools across the board, with big-time bat speed and raw power already, as well as a 60 or better arm and great hands in the field. He’s a bit thickly built and is going to be very strong when he fills out, so the odds are he’ll end up at third base rather than at short, with a good shot to be above-average at the hot corner. He’d gotten away from the leg kick he used as an amateur but restored it last summer and went on a tear to finish his first pro season, hitting 6 of those 7 homers in August, showing the ability to hit velocity and pick up breaking stuff as well. He’s still so young that you want to temper your enthusiasm, but he could be the Jays’ best prospect in a year.

Jeez, turn on the game for a few minutes and Zeuch is getting just destroyed out there, gave up 3 homers. Looked like someone lobbing pitches for the batters at the home run derby. I know it's just spring training, but that was ugly.

On the bright side though, both Vlad and Bo hit bombs and Pearson was mowing MFers down like a scythe again.

I can't say it enough. Please please please stay healthy Nate.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over Merryweather being the return for Josh Donaldson. I don’t think anyone is surprised to see him look absolutely terrible in spring training, oh and as a plus he’s 28 years old!
