Think this might be the first 2024 pick traded.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
FLA/ARIZ deal is Stralman, Vladislav Kolyachonok (52nd in 2019), and a 2nd in 2024 for a 7th in 2023. @PierreVLeBrun had Stralman approval

Still there but apparently on the block too.

Which means they could do this two years in a row… load up on picks to act as a cap dump this year and do the same thing next year as well.

so by my count, that's four 2nds, a 3rd and Kolyachonok for taking on Ghost, Ladd and Stralman. Plus the picks from the OEL trade.

how isn't Seattle in any of this? An expansion team should be all over trades like these.

Have to give the Coyotes credit, they know how to use cap space to accrue draft picks. Wow.

My guess is Arizona does this for the 21-22 and 22-23 seasons. Just take all the bad cap hits that are on 1 or 2 year deals and stock pile picks and prospects.

Then I think they will try to start building a strong team in 23-24, and then try to use the cap space the have to attract Matthews to a young core with a ton of assets that offseason.

Still need to sign Reinhart, Wenneberg, and Lammikko.

Other than that, they may have some excess space for a middle pairing LD/RD to bump Gudas down to bottom pairing, or do something else.

This move I think was mainly for Reinhart’s extension.

The Coyotes are closer to an expansion team than Seattle is. There are more cast offs in Arizona than in Seattle.

By the time our new Arena opens in 2027 we're going to be insanely good. With Auston Matthews and Josh Doan running the lighting things up as the local boys.

I love what Arizona is doing. As others have said Seattle is completely missing out on a ton of draft picks. Is Francis asleep?

Maybe they can trade one of those many 2nd rounders to the Leafs to secure an 8 year contract with Matthews!
