Heiskanen, for me. Makar is the better player but those two additional years and the cheaper AAV are worth more to me than the difference between them.

Dollars are right, I think the Avs should have pressed for the extra term, but that could have pushed closer to 10. If you are going to blow your cap on a defenceman, this is the one to do it on, not Jones.

I'm sure they tried 8 years, but since that would have pushed Makar is a less desirable position in this next contract age wise, it would have been very expensive.

It's not as simple as adding 2 more years at $9M or even adding in the next 2 at $10M.

Makar negotiating at that time could cost him millions of dollars. Timing of UFA contracts is everything. And GM's are finally learning about entering into 8 year contracts with players who have reached 30.

Heiskanen is very good, but Makar is crazy good. There is really no debate. Makar got robbed out of the Norris because he was injured, but it still shouldn't have been close. And Fox is very good.

It might be comparable to the difference between Kane and Johnny.
