The Montreal Canadiens have become a classless organization this week. Multiple exhibits. A true disgrace.

Is that even a thing the league can do?

My god. The kid was 17. He screwed up. He admitted it. I wonder if some of you would be happy if he was strung up. Look around sports and tell me you don't see players who have behaved as badly. And many of them repeatedly and adults. No one is condoning his actions but a life's sentence isn't warranted.

Is the draft really that ####ty that no one was better than a sex offender? Odd.

There's still time to acquire Jake Virtanen, too, Marc...

What about the victim?
The victim that doesn't even believe his apology?

A life sentence wasn’t warranted but a one year delay in getting drafted would be a nice little “punishment”. Instead he gets rewarded by being drafted in the first round by his home Province Habs, likely a “dream come true”.
If ever there was a reasonable uproar from feminists, this is it.

I just can't fathom the ridiculousness of this. If you need to have a statement prepared and ready to go defending your actions, maybe don't draft the kid.

Not that it makes a difference, but I believe he's from Ontario,

Life’s sentence, no. But it’s at the verrrrryyyyy least completely classless to put a 18 year old under the Canadian hockey microscope while he is in the middle of defending a sexual conduct charge, and asked not to be drafted. It’s insane, it’s completely insane. If the kid turns out to be the greatest human who ever lived, this was still a ridiculous pick by Montreal.

I don't really think anyone is saying that it should be a life sentence, but when the player himself comes out and says "Hey, the NHL draft is an honour and a privilege, and with my actions, I don't deserve to be drafted." and you turn around and draft him anyway? That's just begging for a PR nightmare.

The kid himself publicly announced that he wasn't ready to be drafted and was willing to work towards getting ready to prove himself for next year's draft.
There was no reason to force it and definitely no life sentence being imposed.

Steinberg just said it best.
"You're an organization that's trying to set an example, what example are you trying to make with this pick?"
