Yeah it is definitely due to arb rights.
He has a strong case in arbitration. Problem for the Blackhawks is that the award will come in under the walkaway threshold.
So whatever the arbitrator gives as an award, the Blackhawks would be stuck with. Which could cause potential cap issues.

He apparently wants too much money, as his stats were padded playing with Kane, with both Toews and Dach out.
He was likely slotted for 3rd line duty this year, so Chicago didn't want to pay him based on stats which are sure to decrease.
Buyer beware. We wouldn't be getting a 40 point 3rd line centre.

Honestly I would move him to the top of my list on Wednesday.
The guy is 25, was a rookie, and both his counting and underlying metrics were great.
You don't usually get a shot at centers that had a rookie season like he had for free.
