Well, they got their guy then...Hoping that that Loob has as good an eye for talent that he had for the net when sniping 50 for Calgary.

Just have to wait and see in the next 2-5 years.

Stromgren has a good one timer, and from what I’ve seen of him, he tracks the play very well. He knows how to get his stick in the way and disrupt the opposition.

He’s not an electric skater, but he’s smooth.

I think he can play - the Flames have been decent with 2nd round picks under Treliving - Andersson, OK, Dube, Kuznetzov, Parsons, Smith/McDonald - nobody likes the last two, but they were part of Brad’s first draft.

Stromgren looks closer to Dube than Smith, at least as far as being a viable pro hockey player.

Pronman -38 and Wheeler +13

I guess that Pronman is weighting the C+ based on Coronato. Just looking on how off his ranking the Flames went with Stromgren and Huckins it makes the C+ overall ranking a participation award .

Wheeler's grade would be about a C+ based on his pre-draft ranking showing that the Flames got better players than he thought they would in 3 out of 4 of the guys under 100.

The Sporting news ranked every teams draft, here’s what they had to say about the Flames:

Quote:
Calgary Flames: B+
Best Selection: Cole Jordan (141st)
With Matthew Coronato, the Flames take one of the most competitive players in the class, with a nose for getting into the high-danger areas. Their next pick of William Stromgren also could turn into a solid NHLer although he is fairly raw. Picking up Cole Jordan down in the fifth round is one of the biggest draft-day steals as he is an intelligent defender and strong skater

The Oilers were rated one of the worst, so this guy nailed it

I think the B+ is fair for the Flames. We didn't go it with amazing draft capital, but made the best of it.

Personally, I like the picks made by Dallas, Anaheim, and Winnipeg the most. Winnipeg didn't have a lot to work with but seemed to get great value with what they had.

I have mixed feelings about Columbus and ranking them that high. Yeah, they had a lot of 1st round picks, but they paid a lot to get those. I would be excited if I was a fan of course.

Wheeler had Edmonton in the bottom as well. So naturally I agree with that.

I can't possibly rate the second have of the draft but I have to think that Stevie Yzerman and the Red Wings are absolutely kicking it back right now knowing they killed it

Fun Fact! Josh is one of our main scouts at FCHockey and this is a joint promotion we do in conjunction with Sporting News to provide them some NHL Draft content!

And I know Derek Neumeier (our head crossover scout who did an amazing job on the broadcast with SN960 this weekend) suggested pre-draft that we should've had Coronato higher on our list going in, so there's that too.

Will be interesting too see if Raty makes it to the show. I wonder who was the last big faller like him that turned into a top 6 guy

Apparently not only the Flames drafted bigger players this year. It was a league wide trend:

It makes a certain amount of sense. Many prospects played very little and some didn't play at all. You have much less information than usual about how well they can play, but by golly, you do know exactly how big they are.

I'd wait to see the 2022 draft before calling it a trend.

Bader has the Flames with the 9th best skaters and 11th best goaltending prospect list.

Overall rank 6th.

That's sure to cause a stir for those that think Calgary has nothing.

Over the past two drafts, the Flames have added a lot of good pieces to the system (notably Coronato and Zary). They aren't reaching and are drafting good value. The Flames also picked up G prospects Vladar and Werner which helped re-shape a lackluster G pool.

Pfffffffft.

What does looking at players through an analytical lens do?

Pffffffft.

Calgary sucks, watch the games.
