3 or 4th deal in a row at this stage of the offseason where I have been the sole guy on the side of a deal. Must be out of touch.

I’d love to hear your explanation on why you feel it shouldn’t be approved.
I think it always comes back to what is the point of this process. It’s not in place to make sure the new GM wins the deal. It’s to protect them us vet GMs to steal all their good assets because the new GM doesn’t understand sim value.

Ok so I went a took a deeper look. This deal gives DET 1 extra body, sheds 0.25 M and gains a 2023 3rd. I would much rather have Hayes ( a top 6 albeit a great 2nd liner ish) than Kuraly ( 3rd or 4th liner), Grezlyck who seems like a 4-5 dman. Lol don't feel like I am out to lunch actually when I see contracts. I thought DET was saving more cap than that, makes it even more head scratching for the resulting votes.

Also Hayes was acquired for a 1st during the season which in itself shows Hayes is a desirable asset without money or contract spots being equal. Doesn't matter in this case, league has spoken. I am just the guy yelling at the clouds

I was under the impression because Mandolese was aquired through waivers I couldn't send him down? So it's a savings of 1 million ?
Plus I'm a lot higher on Grezlyck than you are. Kuraly is on a cheap contract for 2 more years and his numbers are the same as Tyler Johnson who I wanted to waive.
But yeah I probably could have gotten more. Other people had asked about Hayes. Overall I'm happy enough with it though.

Its fair to say that you are higher on Grzelcyk. You might be getting feedback from other GMs via PM. I only meant my posts as a view into my head. Like Pat pointed it, it would be good to hear from GMs.
You are right on Mandolese front. I can see why its closer than I thought...

I think Grz is a legit top-four guy for sure.

Part of the reason I voted yes is Detroit has some big ticket free agents to re-sign. So they both need to shed cap but I also think they are going to need more bodies to round out the roster. So the fact this included 2 roster players they can use in exchange for one - made it a positive for me.

Having 12 million tied up in goaltending really sucks. At this point I don't think either contract is moveable so I'm stuck with a really expensive backup.

Andersen and Francouz is a pretty darn great tandem, to be fair.

What's the advantage of having a good backup though? Other than if the starter gets hurt?
On the sim if I overplay my starter does it matter? Can't I just play the Number 1 every game?

I think Goalie fatigue is the only concern. Schedule isnt always nicely spread out and you might need to start your backup. I would say if you dont allow too many shots against, it is possible to manage goalie fatigue.

Ah so the simulator accounts for player fatigue. Cool. OK then like Scorpion said it makes more sense to have a good backup.

Give up 30 shots and -1 fatigue
Overtime -1 fatigue
Give up 30 shots and play OT -2 fatigue
fatigue totalling - 6 and your goalie will be exhausted and be "injured" for a game
Sit out a game or have a low total shots against and he'll recover + 1

Yup, it's critical to have two good goalies.

It's less predictable, If a skater plays too much he may do -1 or -2 but then have the same ice next game and recover. The only thing I can offer as advice is... if you find your skater is always dropping in CD then maybe lower his ice time and try to find that balance. OT may cause havoc on your condition especially if you do two OT
Below 95CD is still the injury mark and the skater also recovers +1.
