I enjoy the morning show for what it is. But I also enjoyed Burke smacking them around some the other day.

"The Flames could win the cup and you guys would complain about the color of the cars in the parade".

I heard it late yesterday, but I think it was a repeat of the interview from the same morning. Good stuff on home ice advantage, POs generally, the Vancouver match penalties etc. They pressed him on who the Flames should face and Burke said, and I agree, the team to fear is whoever has the best goalie going in (which he said right now is Dallas and Minnie).

ETA: His comment about their complaining was about them fretting over the Flames goalies, how to prep them and so on. He noted the Flames were a first or second place team and then said the line.

I have never had an issue with the way sports are covered on the local radio. They need to cater to a wide demographic and find balance within the majority of their listening audience and their respective preferences. This is a hockey town so hockey will tend to dominate the bulk of conversation as it does. But covering baseball and CFL and NFL is important and I think they do a good job with the time allotted for each, including present day coverage of spring training. Nothing wrong with that in my view.

I don't care much for skiing myself but for the 15 minute segment they give for their ski report and effective full on advertorial for Lou, I can get by without griping as just because Im not a skiing fan doesn't mean someone else isn't.

As for Jim Rome, I just don't understand his show. It doesn't seem to be a sports program first and foremost, rather, it appears it's a radio version of Springer where some 20 regular listeners just call in and insult one another for 3 hours using inside jokes or slang. Then Rome takes brief pauses in the hatefest to plunk in an interview with an athlete to seemingly justify being placed on sport talk airwaves before heading straight back to promoting hatred amongst his listeners.

I can only assume Jim Rome is popular since he's nation wide and been on for years, so there is clearly an audience for him and I would gather Im in the minority with my views as such. So the fact he's on the air doesn't bother me in the least as obviously the ratings are high enough to justify it and others enjoy him. But from a personal perspective, he's just not for me.

I think my only aversion to Rome is that I'm not a long time listener, so I feel like an outsider when I listen to his show. That and he talks topics in which I'm not particularly interested. And I really dislike the call-in format of his show. A bunch of rehearsed slam poetry in some kind of insider dialect.

Just not my cup of tea.

^ i have a similar take on rome. in general he is knowledgeable and prepared in his interviews. but the pace at which he talks is difficult, and then the clones and bro's that call in - you really need to be long time listener to stay up to date on a lot of the references. personally, i like more local content, or even picking up stuff from the fan in TO as filler.

I like Boomer. He's got a great radio voice, that's for sure. Would be really interesting to see how the morning show would change if he left.

Boomer leaving would be disappointing. I like that guy. Tough gig getting up every morning.

Warrener was joking about moving to San Diego this week, his wife is American so I wouldn't blame him. If I had the means I doubt I'd live in Calgary in retirement.

I only listen during my drive to work these days so maybe I've just tuned in at the right times, but I've noticed him kind of lamenting where he's at in his career lately. Seems like he figured he'd be doing something bigger at this point, I dunno. He plays it off like a joke, but he's mentioned it enough times now lately that I feel like there's a lot of truth to it.

Seems a little strange to me frankly, as aside from the 3am wake-up call which would SUCK, it seems like a pretty sweet gig and nothing to feel like a failure about: show on a major Canadian market and getting good, consistent ratings. 3.5 hour shift and tonnes of perks from sponsors; driving a free Audi, any Flames game you want for free, and getting multiple trips to tropical locales..think he's being too hard on himself, he's doing a lot better than he thinks he is.

But if that's what you're feeling on the inside and ready for a change, then fair enough. I just don't see where he'd go that would be an upgrade at this point, unless there's something we don't know...maybe he just can't stand that 3am thing anymore, that would drive me nuts personally.

That will make for a really awkward Boomer and Warrener Old School Playoff Pool if he's gone.

I assume there's been a disagreement about salary going by his tweet? We are talking about Rogers after all so I imagine trying to get a raise is like pulling teeth. Not sure what the options are for a guy like Boomer though as there aren't a lot of good radio gigs.

Boomer should start a twitch channel where he talks sports while streaming Fortnite. He'd probably make more money.
