Probably still an issue considering he missed most of last season due to injury.
I am sure the insurance in Russia is top notch.

To be fair, Russia is safe. In my 37 years I have never been a victim of any crime. Not even minor.

No wonder you've never been a victim. "Pointman" is the English spelling of "Putin".

I've always likened Russia to the mafia. The entire country is run like the mob, with Putin as the Godfather, obviously.

As long as you 'play by the rules' and don't step on the toes of someone above you, you're fine.

Just like Tony Soprano was a good neighbour - as long as you didn't get involved his 'his' world.

Also, its Versteeg. Of course he's chirping an ex-teammate.
Versteeg was such a beauty with his chirps that got picked up on the mic

There is no country on earth where everyone has been a victim of a crime.

Sure, but how many victims have you had?

(Sorry, that is a joke)

Here is some data from https://data.unodc.org/

that will hopefully change your perspective of Russia a little bit, and also ease your worries about Versteeg's safety :-)

domestic burglary per 100,000 population
Canada 251
Russia 69

assault per 100,000
Canada 140
Russia 16

Homicide per 100,000
Canada 1,6
Russia 11

I did those stats, because I believe that assaults and domestic burglaries are the most dangerous crimes for ordinary people (and I don't have much time for other crimes). And while you may joke about this numbers being fabricated by Putin or something, in reality chances of being assaulted on the street or someone breaking into your house are REALLY slim in Russia. Homicide is a different story, however an ordinary person is unlikely to get killed.

News Update

Apparently Versteeg didn't report or didn't officially sign a contract. Russian outlet reporting that his wife didn't want to move to Russia or "forbade" the move to Russia.

I wouldn't mind Versteeg on the bottom 6 TBH. He'd put up more points up over Hathaway/Lazar.

I don't think Putin made those numbers up, but I do suspect if your choice is to report to a police force or judicial system you don't trust, you made decide not to bother to report anything at all. Your chances of being assaulted in Canada is pretty slim too.

Those crime stats in Russia are probably not entirely accurate. There is a culture of not going to the police unless it's really major, otherwise it brings unwanted attention to both assailant and victim. Unreported crime is a huge thing over there.
