I had a chance to see the movie over the weekend.

I wouldn't say the story or the character development was particularly deep, but it was a really entertaining two hours from start to finish. The Live Aid scene was especially excellent. If you're the pedantic type who wanted them to get every little thing right, you'll probably have many issues to pick at. If not, you'll most likely have a great time. I would've loved to see a deeper dive of the characters and their stories, but that's probably a 5 hour movie.

The idea that the movie was more about the band than Freddie is laughable. This movie was all about Freddie from start to finish. I wasn't as enthralled by Remi Malek's performance as others (maybe I pictured Freddie being a bit different in my head) but I think they did a solid job of looking at his life from all angles... even if sometimes you wanted them to dive deeper.

It drove me crazy trying to place the actor who played John Deacon. After the film, I read that he was the little kid from Jurassic Park!

Best actor was well deserved, but best drama is a bit of a reach. While I wouldn’t be shocked for it to get a best picture nomination for the Oscars due to the expanded nominee list, it’s still not a great film and I can think of 4 or 5 that I liked quite a bit more this year. I was a little disappointed at that result last night.

totally agree.

Malik was amazing.

had some great scenes (basically the musical ones), but I wouldn't call it a great movie.
I'd pay to see it again just for the music scenes, though.

I'll consider best drama and award for the live-aid set. I still can't believe how well they nailed it. Malek is an acting god just for that part of the movie.

oh.
if any of you were wondering:

The frontman is played by Rami Malek, but the actor couldn’t replicate Mercury’s singing voice. The solution was to take recordings from Queen master tapes, with additional vocals recorded by Canadian singer Marc Martel. “Literally, you could close your eyes and it’s Freddie,” King told Rolling Stone in a new interview. “And that’s a very tough thing to do.”

If you've ever heard Marc Martel, he's the closest to Mercury I've ever heard. amazing vocalist.

for their 52 million, it's made almost 750 million world wide.
it's just killed it worldwide.

Hollywood Foreign Press - Queen was always bigger internationally than in the US.

Just got back from seeing the movie and I really, really enjoyed it. I intended to see it when it first came out but the reviews weren't that great and I never got around to it. Winning the awards last night promoted me to see if it was still in theatres and it was so I went with my wife today.

I grew up in the UK and was a big Queen fan so am probably a little biased but that was a good movie. The music sets were very well done and Malik was awesome. My wife went to Live Aid and I had the privilege of seeing Queen live at Wembley Stadium the year after for the 'It's a Kind of Magic Tour'. Supported by INXS, The Alarm and Status Quo that concert was the best concert I have ever been too (and I've been to quite a few).

If you were a fan of Queen back in the day you owe it to yourself to see this movie. It brought back many memories and because of that it will probably go down as one of my Top 10 movie experiences ever.

Finally saw the movie yesterday, and I have to agree with the general assessment that it's not near the slanted horseplop critics were whining about. They shuffled a lot of it up, and flat out made up their own timeline and facts, but it was enjoyable. It was hard to just stay in the seat and not get up and rock out.

Loved the little meta-joke with Mike Myers playing Ray Foster talking about how kids wouldn't be headbanging to Bohemian Rhapsody in their cars. Brilliant.

thought it would be nice to see it again (in a format I can fast forward), and went to the Edmonton library website.
very popular. I am 1070 in line, with there being 151 copies.
first time I've ever requested anything where I was more than 200th in line.
