Bob McKenzie on 3 of the college free agents discussed recently:
Quote:
U.S. college free agent forward Max Veronneau of Princeton could make a decision as early as today on which NHL team he’ll sign with. The Ottawa native received interest from 25+ NHL clubs and has whittled that list down to a final two or three teams.
Veronneau‘ s hometown Senators are believed to be making a major push to sign the 23-year-old, right shot, 6 foot, 180-pound, senior forward who had 13 goals, 37 points in 31 games for Princeton. Prior to playing at Princeton, Veronneau played for Gloucester Rangers in the CCHL.
EDM is another team making a major push to sign Veronneau.
Two more U.S. college free agents — Princeton forward Ryan Kuffner of Ottawa and Michigan State forward Taro Hirose of Calgary — are also believed to be in the final stages of their decision-making process on which NHL team to sign with. Decision(s) may come today or tomorrow.

Oilers won't get Veronneau
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
OTT is the clear frontrunner to land hometown boy Max Veronneau, the U.S. college free agent forward who just concluded his senior season at Princeton. Certainly looks as though the former Gloucester Ranger is on the verge of becoming a Senator.

Lots of teams after Princeton D Josh Teves. Certainly sounds like the Canucks are a finalist.

Wow, hope the Sens get Veronneau. Might have to go out to a few more games to check out some of their intriguing young players.

At risk of turning this into a E=NG spin off, I legit instantly doubt a players potential when I see EDM interested. Their history of talent evaluation and subsequent drafting (aside from #1's and even then.....) has had an effect.

Looks like Teves to the Canucks is almost done
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
In addition to TOR signing Joseph Duszak from Mercyhurst, expectation is more Canadian teams will add FA content. Max Veronneau from Princeton to OTT, and teammate Josh Teves with VAN.
upd:
Princeton coach has postead a picture of Kuffner, Teeves and Veronneau signing their NHL contracts but unknown who Kuffner signed with

mystery solved
so
Kuffner to Det
Teves to Van
Veronneau to Ott
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
The final member of that Tigers' trio -- Ottawa's Ryan Kuffner -- is headed for DET.

The Canucks apparently want to sign Nico Sturm too and were in on Veronneau before he signed with his hometown team.

Hall gave a most thoughtful answer regarding why he wants to take time to decide future. Only 5 playoff games in 9 years. Probably halfway through his career. Wants to win. But doesn’t want to chase something and make the wrong choice.

having Hall would be ridiculous. Would give the team essentially 2 first lines. The second line is missing that line driver and speed which exactly what Hall is. Would be scary and I've mentioned before the Flames are looking at make a push for him in the OS...

I agree with you that we should look to move Frolik, Brodie and Stone's contracts in the offseason as well as add another top 6 forward that is in his mid-late 20's or younger..
However that top 6 guy needs to be a guy we could fit into our salary cap moving forward and if at all possible be RHed.
Ignoring the RHed thing I don't think we can afford to re-sign Hall without screwing up the cap.
I like your line of thinking however because if we can add a legitimate threat to round out our top 6 we will be set for years.
Just to clarify I still like Brodie and Frolik but with Valimaki, Kylington, Dube and Mangiapane all in the fold we need to swap expensive, aging vets for young, cheap up-and-coming players.

What do you think he'll get? He'll be nearly 29 by the time his next contract kicks in and he already makes 6M. If you can fit him in now, there's not much of a concern fitting him in going forward.
That 2022 off-season is going to be a future defining one anyways. Gaudreau and Giordano up, Monahan (and Neal) one year away. Could be huge changes. I think you play for the 2020-2022 seasons when you still got Gaudreau and Giordano in the mix for sure.
Benefit while the top line of Gaudreau, Monahan and Lindholm are on sweet heart deals instead of waiting to see what happens when they need to be re-upped. I would rather the team be elite by adding someone like Hall for the next couple years and then see what happens then not making a move because 5 years from now it might not be great.

8.5 - 9.5 million per year for 5 years minimum is my guess.
