King's short stories are brilliant, the story heads up that he wrote about a year with his sons baseball team was excellent.
But anything longer then a couple of hundred pages and he falls apart.
I'll never forgive him for the stupidity of the ending of "It"

OMG, the first half of it was great and actually made it a bit tough to sleep at night (because I am a giant baby).
But the last half, ending, was the biggest literary let down of my life. What a waste.

Its his biggest struggle. Its almost like he runs out of paper and has to end his books too quickly.
It a Giant interdimensional spider that they ripped the heart out of (IIRC)
The Stand - Brilliant book with amazing characters, then the hand of god stomps down on a nuclear warhead.
You almost have to read King's books with a sense that the let down is going to come and you have to welcome it.

I think there was a documentary about Edmonton that would fit this bill.

I thought he managed to end the Dark Tower in a satisfying way though I know it is polarizing to fans.
The interesting thing is that he practically begs the reader not to finish the book showing some self awareness that often tying his books up are a mighty struggle.
His short stories and pulp fiction style crime novellas are easier for him to wrap up. But in his core longer works - there is no ending - because it is one big universe that never gets wrapped up.
I admit though I've fallen behind on his stuff. I used to read each book as it came out - and I'm now many years behind.
The funny thing is for me The Stand is one of my least favorite King books, and not just because of the ending. The whole thing just never clicked for me.

out of curiosity which version of the Stand did you read. I ask that because the original publishing had been heavily edited and a bunch of content removed. The extended version is almost a different story.

ok, I found that the extended or uncut book was just far better then the cut down original, especially Trash Can Man going through the mountains which was missed in the original and running into the kid, though I could have done without the sodomy with a pistol description.

+1. Denzel Washington stabbing people, Gary Oldman as a manipulative villain, Mila Kunis is also there, and a really great twist.
