Happy trails, Steeger. Your jersey hangs with honour in my closet.

Joining up with Hartley and Ramo in Omsk (but not in Omsk because their 10 year-old arena is unsafe, so they'll be playing this season in a small suburb of Moscow).

Wasn't Cammalleri also rumoured to be going there? Wow.

The Omsk arena is only 10-years-old and already unsafe? What the hell?

I have had the pleasure of meeting Kris here in Lethbridge a number of times. Always a pleasant and gracious human being who seems very appreciative of what the game of hockey has given him. It's been a blast being able to cheer for him in a Flames uniform.

Best of luck to him in the next stage of his pro career!

I hope he has a killer season and attracts NHL interest again next year. He's an underrated player when healthy but he needs to prove that he can be for a full season.

The way last season played out was very unfortunate for Versteeg. Obviously, being injured for much of the year doesn't help. But beyond that, I think he is a victim of the fact that the team sucked - especially the bottom 6 - and needed changes.

I suspect that, if the Flames had had a successful season, he would be back this year. It's too bad, from his perspective, but it is a tough business and it can be cold at times. That's why you have to appreciate the time you get - and it sounds, from the poster above, like he did.

All the best to him. And thanks for "#### you, Elliott"

It's Russia. Pretty much everything is unsafe.

Hopefully the Oilers hired the same construction contractors.

What are the chances that Darryl Katz was running shady money laundering schemes with Russian billionaires?

It opened in 2007, so I guess 11 years.

It's hard to find details about it because most of the stories are in Russian and Google Translate doesn't do a great job with Russian to English. From what I can tell, in late-July, inspectors discovered serious structural issues with the building and deemed it unsafe for either the team or fans to be in the building.

I'm unclear if the problems were caused by renovations that were being carried out, or if the renovations were being done to try to fix the problems that were already there. Either way, it was determined that the arena won't be cleared in time for the season, so Avangard will play their home games in a small arena outside Moscow, over 2000 km away from Omsk.

What's weird is that their old arena is Omsk seems to still be operational and isn't much smaller than the arena they'll be playing out of in Moscow. You'd think it would have made more sense to play there.

Was that determined to come from Versteeg? I always figure it was a stray outburst from a Philly fan picked up by the mic.

No it was definitely Versteeg. You can see him say it and Elliott turns to look at him immediately.

Also, its Versteeg. Of course he's chirping an ex-teammate.

I wish him all the best, he was actually a pretty effective player given how he wasn't hailed as a savior when the Flames brought him in and on a cheap contract.

Best of luck Versteeg!

I mentioned in the Bouma thread how it sounds like a ton of fun to go to Switzerland after making your millions.

I wouldn't go to Russia for half of Vladimir Putin's net worth.
