...nine days until the draft! Nine!
I can't wait until we:
1) Acquire John Tavares' negotiation rights on Friday night and then sign him Saturday morning
2) Acquire Phil Kessel
3) Acquire and sign Philipp Grubauer (just think of how many people will misspell his name! It'll be glorious!)
Then everything will fall into place!

Fair enough. And maybe you're right but even then, I would say it's more reason not to make significant commitments or expend organizational assets on depth players. Maybe wait to find out if we are as good as you believe we might be?

I still think we should trade Brodie for a top 6 forward, it'd be a bonus if the player is a right shot and can also play center. Charlie Coyle comes to mind, and IMO Minny should also add a pick in this instance.
Then trade Stone for a prospect and a pick, if possible.
Then target and sign Thomas Hickey via free agency. Calgary kid, good puck mover, skater and decent all-round Dman and has played with Hamonic before.
New D:
Giordano - Hamilton
Hickey - Hamonic
Kulak - Andersson
Let Kylington, Valimaki and Hogstrom battle Kulak for that bottom pairing spot.
Then also target another top 6 forward via free agency, and if the price gets to steep or you can't draw anyone in, then look to package up Bennett and Fox to see if you can nab another top 6 forward via trade. This is another time where if the player is a right hand shot and can play some center it will be a bonus. Tyler Johnson comes to mind, or Kevin Hayes although Hayes isn't a right hand shot.
New F group:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Coyle
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Johnson
Ferland - Backlund - Frolik
4th line built from best camp performers (Shore, Lazar, Brouwer, Mangiapane, Ehliz, Dube, Foo, etc)
If not, then you just have to roll with what you have and hope some young guys step up.

I have a couple of questions. First, why do we need Grewbouwer? When we have Smyth and Giles and/or Riddich will be place holders until Parrsons is ready.
Do you think we can afford Kessell if we already signed Tavarez to a really rich contract?

Oh Buff, that's not the stuff. Clearly Brouwer is what we had to give up to get Tavares' rights, and Smith went to Pittsburgh in the Kessel deal, and Pittsburgh retained money.

Take away johnny, mony, and tkatchuk and we have nothing for forwards. Backlund is a two way 3rd liner we wont win a cup with him as our 2c. Lol our forward group is pretty atrocious

If we dont acquire at least one proven top 6 forward its going to be an extremely long season.

I guess you think Ferland, Bennett and Jankowski are garbage and will continue to be garbage?
I don’t think many would agree with that assessment. Flames have most of the forwards needed imo. Just need one driving offensive forward and a step forward from Bennett or Janko and we have very good forward depth.
Atrocious? That describes Vancouver’s forwards

That's good, because this past season was pretty short.

Treliving is very glad all this is happening. It really opens the door up to a trade with Ottawa revolving around Michael Stone and Hoffman. Mike for Mike.
- Karlsson wants out. They will need to shore up RD.
- Flames have remarkably good depth at RD. Andersson knocking at the door.
- Hoffman definitely needs to make like a tree and get outta here after this disaster. Value has tanked.
- Flames need scoring winger help in their top 6. Missing solid trade assets.
- Mark Stone is up for RFA renewal this season. Having his brother around would help the organization's long term plans for him.
But acquiring a winger and opening up a spot on RD would be killing two birds with one stone. Going full wizard would be also buyout Brouwer and land Tavares in UFA.

Hoffman Trade Value?
Senators have 10 young D men (7 still on ELC)
They'll need to bring in a whole new platoon of forwards over these next few years...
To Calgary:
Mike Hoffman (without fiancé)
To Ottawa:
(their choice of...)
Garnet Hathaway
Morgan Klimchuk
Ryan Lomberg
Hunter Shinkaruk
Emile Poirier
Brett Pollock
Austin Carroll
Hunter Smith
+ 2018 4th's (x2) 6th & 7th rounders

That’s an EA sports NHL trade for sure. Throw as many late rounders at them as you can until they accept.

Taking a career back up and doubling his workload has not worked out well historically.

Let me see if I get this formula.
Take an NHL roster and subtract their top three forwards and what you get is pretty weak?
I'll write this one down.

With all of this Senators mess going around, maybe Mark Stone does not want to stay in Ottawa? Especially, if Karlsson and Hoffman leave for scraps, and he is currently in his prime so might not want to wait around.
Mark Stone for TJ Brodie + Michael Frolik + Sam Bennett + Adam Fox
Then, we can try and sign Tavares
Gaudreau-Monahan-Stone
Tkachuk-Tavares-Jankowski
Ferland-Backlund-Foo
Mangiapane-Shore-Lazar
Brouwer/Klimchuk
Plan B: If you can't sign Tavares, sign Neal
Gaudreau-Monahan-Stone
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Neal
Ferland-Backlund-Foo
Mangiapane-Shore-Lazar
Brouwer/Klimchuk

If Tre can pull off plan A, we would need to seriously consider building a statue of him in front of the dome.

If we don't acquire a top 6 forward, we will need to depend on Jankowski, Bennett or someone from the farm becoming a top 6 forward, which seems like a stretch. Maybe one of the guys get there eventually but I wouldn't bank on it for next year.
Where that will leave us is in the exact same spot as last year, gutting it out with a few teams for a playoff spot. Not sure I'd characterize this as an "extremely long season" but I do agree with the sentiment of your post.
