Shouldn't we start to hear rumours of a whole new console soon? Or is the semiconductor shortage affecting something like that too? The Switch is 5 years old by now.

I'd be happy with a pro version that supported good AA. Dem jaggies!

It feels like there have been rumors about a switch pro for years now. From parts manufacturers, analysts, dev kits, etc. I think the shortage has to have hurt Nintendo as well.

They are basically the best selling console of them all right now. Unfortunately that is also a chicken and an egg problem for a newer, higher powered console as well I guess.

Right, that was what I was recalling.

I wonder how that would work. There are so many anti-aliasing solutions out there today. Would developers use the extra horsepower to enable some kind of AA or just increase the the framerate? Would they even want to spend the time going back to the game to patch in some graphic engine changes? I assume some recent games might have support already built in for better texture resolution or framerates.

Good questions, there's also the question if some devs did things that kind of depend on the hardware being a certain way making such a change much harder to deal with.

Probably more money to be made by a new console than just boosting the power of the existing one to make games look a little better, even if it was just limited to newer games.

BotW emulated on a PC looked amazing, I'd love to play Arceus or the new ones coming out without all the jaggies.

Has the supply been any better for either PS5 or Xbox lately? Or is it still the same old issues?

PS5's are available at Costco and Walmart right now. They do seem to pop up and last much more now, supply chain is healing.

EDIT: Also at Shoppers, without a bundle:

This does not bode well for my "Buy a new ps5 then sell it when my broken one comes back in 2 months from Sony" plan.

Original Switch was announced October 20th with a March 3rd launch date.

I still feel like they could announce a Switch 2 that would release with Zelda in May.

Only thing being they wouldn't want to cannibalize their own Holiday sales, so they'd likely wait until January - which would be a similar time cycle from announcement to launch (October 20 - March 3 is ~5 months, January - May 12 is ~5 months)

Supply chain healing/healed?

https://www.ign.com/articles/playsta...sentially-over

PlayStation 5 Passes 30 Million Units Sold, Shortage Essentially Over

Sony has announced that its PlayStation 5 console has now surpassed more than 30 million units sold, and that the console shortage is now essentially over.

Confident that supply issues are now solved completely, Ryan added that "everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailer globally, starting from this point forward."

I was out and about on the weekend here in Lethbridge. I decided to look at stores for a PS5. Nothing.

Anyone pre-order the PS VR2? Seems like all the hands on impressions from most folks at the CES came away pretty impressed. I decided to pre-order last night. I enjoyed the original PSVR, but hated all the cables that came along with it, and did not like using the crappy PS3 gen Move controllers. The VR2 looks way better in terms of cable management and controllers setup.

I was going to but changed my mind after seeing the price.

If it was PCVR compatible I probably still would have but I don't want to risk getting it, playing a few games I can only get on PS5 and then have it sit there collecting dust.

Wait and see for me...playing PC VR with a Quest 2 and no wires has been pretty sweet considering the low cost if you already have the PC

Probably eventually, I do agree though wish it was PC compatible

I've got mine, and seeing the CES previews has me pretty excited. I adored my PSVR, and they seem to have addressed all my annoyances for the next one.

I don't think I'll get it at launch but based on the reviews and hands on impressions people had at CES I think I will have to jump in eventually.

I really struggled with the visual fidelity on PSVR being so poor, and it sounds like this really fixes that.
