There is no such thing as "discounts" in today's NHL; especially not for UFAs.

Veteran Mike Smith has conducted his phone interviews with all the participants in this year’s game of goalie musical chairs. Door isn’t completely closed on returning to #Flames, but I think #Canes are a team to watch for Smith.

Whatever you imagine a discount might look like, it's not happening.

Mike Smith is 37-years-old. He is not getting any term.

I think he could find someone to give him two years.

Former Flames draft pick.

Here's one I didn't see coming: 13 #NHL teams have already expressed interest in John Gilmour (Group VI UFA). Gilmour, 26, had 20 goals (!) and 54 points as a defenceman this year in AHL Hartford. Could well be this year's Austin Czarnik.

Smith has it in him to pull out some good games, but I think needs a lower pressure market where he can be less under the microscope and go about his business. ARI was good for that.
Win-Win for us as we won't have to hear another segment from Wills about Smith.
I'll take that Mrazek guy out of Carolina here.

Yes. Two years is not what is commonly meant when people discuss a player "getting term."

He always seemed like an odd player to not qualify and cut loose. Though I thought the same thing about Stepan Falkovsky.

Either way Flames still would have probably lost Gilmour in group 6 UFA.

'Tweener/Depth guy for popcorn row. Some teams could see him as a third pairing player.

Or, he's so amazingly good that a team can go with the 4-1-1 configuration. You never know until you try. The kids call it 'rolling a Gilmour'.

So you overplay a mid-pairing defenseman and are now afraid he'll get too much, so you're going to look at other mid-to-bottom pairing defensemen who will be overpaid as UFAs.
Seems more like a scare-tactic to make it seem like the Canucks are okay letting Hutton go, but he's probably just as content testing UFA if possible.

The Canucks are suddenly in a god-damned hurry to get to the playoffs. It sure seems like Dim Jim Benning is working this free agency period at gun-point, under an ultimatum and willing to do anything to squeak in in April 2020.
This is a very dangerous time for the Vancouver Canucks with a desperate man at the helm.

Interesting if true:
David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
As of now, it sounds like the Stars are out of the mix for Mats Zuccarello. Could change, but that’s current state. He’s received interest from a number of teams so far.

Not sure about their cap situation, but I can see him going back to New York. They didn’t seem like they really wanted to trade him.
