Makes sense that they wanted to sign him. Way to cash in on a career year.

Makes the steep price they paid make a lot more sense now that it's not just a rental

Not a fan of a $30 million contract for this player.

That's 6 years and $5M more than I would pay.

Career year. Doubt he'll ever hit 25 goals again. He's a good player but that's a lot of dough for a 3rd line C.

I actually don't mind the deal, from what I've seen Pageau is a good 2 way player who plays all out.

I think it's a fabulous deal. One year too long for me, but that AAV is going to be good value. This is a good player who moves the needle for a team. He contributes a lot all over the ice, not just offense.
I'm honestly surprised at the responses to this. Ottawa had a lot of junk, but Pageau was one nugget of gold tucked away in all that junk.
Now, that being said, I think their acquisition cost of two top picks is too high, but that's another story. This is a good deal.

I'm a believer in not overvaluing players on bad teams. They typically get more ice time than they would on a good team and they are playing from behind a lot and the pressure just isn't there to deal with game to game when every point counts.

What about players who play tough minutes on crap teams and stay +...
This guy does everything. He hits, he gets into scrums, he puts up moderate points, and plays a strong 2 way game.

Have we really got to the point where guys like this should be making $5 million a season though? He's Paul Byron right down to the stats.
