Winsport's website lists July 4-7 as "tentatively booked" in Joan Snyder Arena. That lines up with previous years, with July 3 (as confirmed by the Athletic) likely serving as an off-ice day. Development camps have occured in the first week of July since the second year of Treliving's managerial tenure with the Flames.

The CBA says this about dev. camps:

Quote:
Participation in Conditioning Camps will be limited to the following:
(i) Unsigned Draft Choices;
(ii) Any Player in the Entry Level System with less than 120 NHL Games
played (but who did not play in excess of 70 NHL Games in the preceding
Regular Season);
(iii) Draft-related Unrestricted Free Agents;
(iv) Players who were eligible for selection in the preceding Entry Draft but
were undrafted; and
(v) Any Player who is not in the Entry Level System, who finished the
preceding season disabled, and who submits a written request to the Club,
with a copy to the NHL and the NHLPA, to participate in his Club's
Conditioning Camp.
Players cannot be required to attend more than three of these camps but are able to opt into further camps. Mark Jankowski notably attended five.

Camp starts on July 3, but that's likely off-ice, which is why they don't have the ice booked.

There's a thread in the Back Burner forum on the camp invites who are known so far: https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=174576

It makes sense for there to be a thread in the main forum too.

Four players from Michigan State...

Mattson and Nodler are draft picks. Miller and Rosburg are invites.

Out of thanks, but thanks getbak, I'll comb through that thread and add stuff to the OP.

Oh yes, he can be required to attend. He has not met the games played threshold to warrant exclusion.

With all the excitement of adding new prospects at the draft last weekend I'd almost forgot about some of our other intruiging prospects. Looking forward to seeing guys like Pospisil, Petterson and Zavgorodny up close for the first time since last year, still lots of potential there.

overager Andrew Fyetn of the Oil Kings as well
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...1/andrew-fyten

Kope is interesting as he was rated 151 by Future considerations and 202 by central scouting for the 2019 draft. May have been on the radar to be drafted by the Flames

Kid from the Blazers is pretty tough by today's WHL standards but needs to learn to manage the emotions a bit more. That said I like seeing the Flames bring in potential tough guys at low acquisition cost like this instead of spending high picks on them like they did with Kanzig and Hunter Smith, if he continues to improve could be worthwhile.

Rosberg looks like an interesting invite as well, would expect him to be pretty advanced at his age, size and track record

It seems like he is the type of guy who would have been drafted if it were 2008 or so.

Very tall, with some offensive skill.
165 lbs for 6'5 is very light though wow.

He's been to three. 2016, 2017, and 2018. It's possible that he attends this one as well, depending on where the Flames' brass sees him.

That's not really why Kanzig and Smith got drafted, however. They were looked at as really big and tough prospects that were smart and had fairly good ceilings. Todd Button in particular raved about how mature Kanzig was, how he was such a great leader and how he was so cerebral. Smith was a guy who's production was spiking and they really liked his potential as a big guy with skill.

It is just unfortunate that they didn't pan out, but a lot of other smaller skilled players didn't either. They weren't drafted as goons, but rather as potential high impact players to help the team down the road play some tough but skilled hockey. Not much difference in having defencemen Kanzig not pan out vs Wotherspoon not pan out, right? I actually found what Button was saying about Kanzig really interesting - he seemed to really like him as a prospect, and so did the rest of the scouts (they all saw him live, as they all took the ferry from their meeting in Vancouver to see him in Victoria).
