Moon Songs Playlist - 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11, July 20
Help me make a playlist for my radio program, airing live on July 20th at 7 pm on CJSW.
I'd like to celebrate this anniversary with about 10 Moon Songs. In keeping with the theme of the show I'm looking for Moon Songs by classic indie artists, and especially Canadian and local artists. Songs around 3:00 minutes are best.
So far I thought of:
Moon Songs
Radiohead - Sail To The Moon
REM - Man On The Moon
Los Lobos - Luna
The Cramps - Rock On The Moon
Herbert Von Karagen - Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001: A Space Odyssey)
Huevos Rancheros - Moon Patrol **
Talking Heads - Moon Rocks
Police - Walking On The Moon
Feist - My Moon My Man *
Neil Young - Harvest Moon *
Joni Mitchell - Moon At The Window *
Pine Tarts - Green Moon **
David Bowie - Moonage Daydream
Waterboys - The Whole Of The Moon
B-52s - There's A Moon In The Sky
Dukes Of Stratosphear - Bike Ride To The Moon

Music has been interwoven throughout spaceflight history, from pre-launch songs to shuttle wake-up calls to crewmembers playing instruments on the International Space Station. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, we’re also preparing to go back to the Moon by 2024, which means astronauts will have a non-stop journey of approximately 3 days each way – the ultimate long-distance travel. Just like any road trip needs a soundtrack, so does a spaceflight! If you were making the journey, what favorite song would you be sure to include on your playlist? Let us add it to ours! Tell us on Twitter with the hashtag #NASAMoonTunes or submit via this form!
Submit your suggestion from June 3-June 28 -- the same time frame in which Apollo 11 astronauts were making final preparations for their mission 50 years ago. Liftoff of our playlist will be on July 13 and 14 and will air during a live show on NASA’s Third Rock Radio, just a few days prior to the Apollo 11 launch anniversary!
Pink Floyd - Brain Damage
it has the album’s namesake lyric ‘I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon’
Neil Young has Harvest Moon, though between that and the Sesame Street banjo jingle ‘the moon in June is a big balloon, it makes you croon, it makes you swoon’ I’d go Sesame Street for sure

From the Race for Space album by Public Service Broadcasting, either:
"The Other Side" or "Go".
The whole album samples historical recordings from different events in US and Soviet space race achievements and events, and these two are about, respectively, the first time an Apollo mission orbited the moon and the resulting Loss of Signal, and the Go/No-Go control room decisions for Apollo 11.

I searched "moon" in my iTunes and found scores of moon songs. I have so much material now, there will be some tough decisions. I think I can make one or two Moon Compilation CDs for Funding Drive in October.
