I was going to say, isn't that like the Isles trading Luongo because they were able to draft the clearly superior Rick DiPietro.

Rather than starting a new thread putting the below here.
We've got a thread on NCAA free agents but what about euro free agents? Chicago did well with Panarin and competition will be high. But it's a cheap way to improve the team.
Article mentions Karki, Golyshev and Zaitsev. Zaitsev is rumoured to be interested in Toronto, Golyshev seems really small and Karki is a lw where we have org depth. Are there any other high profile free agent rw out there that might be able to come in and contribute?
The Canucks are committed to looking outside the organization also and there are a number of intriguing undrafted free agents – the aforementioned Lyon, Richmond, B.C. born defenceman Troy Stecher (who plays with Canucks prospect Brock Boeser in North Dakota), big Finnish forward Jarno Karki, Russian sniper Anatoli Golyshev, Russian defender Nikita Zaitsev – who would carry roughly the same odds of developing into impactful NHL players as a typical mid-round draft pick.

That should be irrelevant when discussing a free asset. Either your depth doesn't pan out and you're happy to have him or it does pan out and you potentially have a surplus that you can trade.

Golyshev just signed a KHL contract extension until 2019 in December. Seriously doubt he is coming to NA at the end of the season.

Just looking at the unsigned draft pick list for 2014, and one name stood out.
C/RW Eric Cornel - 6'2'' 192lbs - 44th OA in 2014
Sabres have until June 1st to sign him or they lose his rights and he goes back to the 2016 draft.
Wonder what the deal is there and if the Flames could grab him for cheap.

Cornel is a 2 way C with a very well rounded skillset. He has no real weaknesses and has superb playmaking ability to go with average but NHL quality skating and shot. He is also very responsible defensively and has some grit to boot.
I'd guess he would be considered close in quality to our Brett Pollock. He would be a good add.
That being said I have a friend who is a hardcore Sabres fan, so I'm quite familiar with their organizational depth. He would never admit it but they are very shallow at center. Maybe not on their big club but definitely in AHL/JR. I think he would be considered their best center prospect easily so no idea why they wouldn't sign him.
Close to 50 contracts maybe?

I remember reading up on Cornel a lot that draft year and had some hopes on him being a Flames target. He looked really good in the Highlight packages of Draft eligible PEte's players. You noticed him in the Nick Ritchie highlights, and the Matthew Spencers highlights.
I liked him because RH shooters were and still are a need. And he has some good skill. I would be surprised if Buffalo couldn't or wouldn't get him signed. But they're going to let him go I'd hope Treliving gets on the horn and hammers out a trade.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
On Mantas Armalis: Lithuanian-born, Swedish trained goalie who doubles as, yes, a male model. Big guy (6'3-ish), having a strong year...
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
TOR and CAR among the teams who have pursued him hardest...with TOR believed to be the favourite. But, we'll see how it plays out.
I will leave the googling of his male model pics to anyone that cares to do it.
According to my sources, Flames rescinded their contract offer when Armalis asked Ken King why he was building an arena/fieldhouse for ants while being shown a scale model of CalgaryNEXT

Zoolander should go to Toronto. Hansel on the Rangers has a great record against the Laffs.

Ha, god knows why this kid is going into hockey, he'd probably make more money as a model. He is distractingly good looking though....

I don't think male models are as well-paid as women are.
This story says that the 10th-highest paid male model makes a little more than a quarter million a year (and Armalis isn't on the top 10 list): http://fortune.com/2015/07/15/male-models-pay/
Only the top 6 highest paid male models make more than the NHL league minimum.
If he can become a legitimate NHL starter, he'll make a lot more money than he ever could as a ridiculously good looking male model (and the average career for a professional model is about the same as for a professional hockey player).
