Habs are reachng Oilers East levels of ineptitude and as a Leafs fan I am loving it.

Sign a bridge deal? At that cap hit for 2 years? Why not kust keep Chucky?

I’m looking for 20g, 50p from Bennett this year at least. If he doesn’t take a significant step forward this year under a new coach with different linemates then I’d start to be worried. It’s a pretty big show me, contract year for Bennett. But I have a lot of faith that Peters will help him get into positions to succeed better than GG did

Galchenyuk is better than Domi, plus he can play centre. Seems like a clear win for Arizona...

I think Galchenyuk, despite being older, has more potential than Domi or Bennett.
It will be exciting to see how he plays with Keller.

As for Bennett, I'm just hoping he gets 35+ points this year.
50 points would be nice, but I'm just hoping that Bennett can be a solid player in a deep lineup. At least for now. He still has potential, but let's be patient. Let's have reasonable expectations for now.

It feels like Bergevin doesn't even ask to get picks thrown in. In trades like this and Subban/Weber one, you'd expect a 2nd or something to be going the Habs way.

CBA runs out in 2020. Probably heading bets on a 2 year deal.

If Brodie is on the move, and Bergevin is nuts, maybe Gallagher isn't as far fetched as we think.
I really like Brodie and think he rebounds this season.

That being said, I'd love to add Gallagher.

Tkachuk - Bennett - Gallagher?

Galchenyuk is better right now. Domi has a little more to prove as he has dropped off.

Montreal is not very good at trades. Some head scratchers from them.

Domi signs a new 2 years 6.3M contract.

I guess that seems about right.

$3.15m for a .5ppg player? At least that part isn't terrible.

Good old hockey trade. I like it for both teams. Personally I prefer Domi to Galchenyuk bit like the move for both sides

Actually Domi and Bennett have a lot of similarities in their NHL career so far. Both had their best season as a rookie and took steps back since then.

Bleak though? Where's the patience people? In the grand scheme of things Bennett has barely started his NHL career. And he missed almost an entire season due to shoulder surgery post-draft. How quickly people forget his 18 goal rookie year and the potential he showed then. It didn't evaporate. Yes, he's struggled but GG didn't necessarily put him in the greatest positions to achieve offensive success and confidence. And when young offensive players lose confidence their whole game can go to crap. Let's see Bennett under Peters before we write him off.

Things aren't looking bleak yet for Bennett. That's putting too much stock into his recent play and not enough of a view of his entire career. It isn't always just about trends and the last season or two. Bennett was one of the most skilled players in the world at his age in his draft year. At age 19 he scored almost 20 goals as a rookie. Don't let his struggles the last couple years erase your memory of that. Plenty of time for him to regain his offensive confidence and find his NHL groove.

Bennett is 21 guys, about to turn 22. Many players don't even make the NHL before that age. To think he doesn't have room for massive improvement still would be crazy. He's basically still at the dawn of his NHL career. As is Domi. Both players will still probably turn out just fine. I'm not just a Flames homer in this arena, I think its dangerous to write off super skilled young players like Bennett, Domi or even Puljujarvi up north.

Things aren't bleak for Bennett. I know everyone wanted instant success but it doesn't always work out that way for every player. Some players struggle early for various reasons but it doesn't mean their upside and potential has evaporated or disappeared.
I couldn’t agree with you more. All those bashing Bennett really are overreacting in my opinion. The guys is 22, played under GG for the last few years and never given a chance to play top 6 minutes. Both Domi and Galchenyuk were playing top 6, if not top 3 minutes. I really hope that Peters gives Sam a shot - I still think this kid has the abilities to be a top 3 player on the team. It’s amazing what a little bit of confidence can do in sports. Having a decent head coach who doesn’t play pylons like Brouwer in the top 6 will make a huge difference to this team. Give Bennett a chance to play where he should have been playing before giving up on the highest Flames draft choice ever...

I get the point and I would agree except Bergevin is high on character and Gallagher arguably should be their captain. He probably has the most consistent effort of all of their guys. So, I'd say the odds are fairly low that Bergevin moves Gallagher.

I am in no way giving up on Bennett at this point to eventually become a top 6 contributor, but as of today, I would take Domi every day of the week over Bennett.

Oh there's none of that in here. Most of this thread is about Sam Bennett.
