agreed, I didn't have any high hopes for Biden except that don't be another Trump. From a Canadian perspective he hasn't been a good partner.
Its good that Trump is gone. But the American political system and both parties are so bad that seriously going forward good governance is the last thing that we're going to be seeing. North American politics is just so terrible right now.

The thing that really pisses me off is that Trump was an idiot that could have been exploited for our gain.
But somehow....we found an even dumber idiot and elected that clown instead.

Biden is trying to tamp down inflation by asking OPEC to pump more, conservatives in the states have been attacking him for the gas prices.
Most of the oil buys from Russia are going to California, a market we can potentially take over once TMX is done. KXL wouldn't have tapped that market as very few internal US pipelines cross the mountains into the state. The coastal refineries buy waterborne barrels and with falling Mexican and Venezuelan heavy production they have to go to OPEC+.
Alberta is in good position if Line 3 is completed this year and TMX next year. We don't really need KXL until late decade and that probably assumes business as usual vs tightening GHG emissions.

The Premier posted that Alberta had record oil production in the first quarter. That's great for the industry, and with TMX getting completed eventually and demand not falling dramatically anytime soon it would seem like the as built industry should be in good shape for years to come, including not insignificant investment in maintenance and replacement. With regulations, ESG, and construction timelines though it's unlikely there will be any major expansion in the future, so is this the new normal? A healthy mature business with decent employment but nothing like the boom days. Does it become a cash cow over time with the province wanting more royalties (since there's no new investment to scare off)?

Yes, I think this is the new normal. It's hard to envision any major new oil sands projects getting announced but smaller expansions and debottlenecks will continue. Royalties shouldn't need to be revisited but will go up naturally as more projects hit payout. They are also directly tied to oil prices and the province does well with prices where they are today.

Oh please.. Trump, on a whole, was a terrible president and not great for Canadian/American relations. Trudeau over Trump any day. Biden over Trump any day.

Kind of a random question here, but does anyone have a good resource for measurement conversions? I'm trying to build an Excel file that I can send to my team where you can put in your original volume (mcf, m3, GJ, e3m3, or m3, bbl) and it will automatically populate the conversion for the others. I'm having a hard time putting it together and would love some tips or suggestions.

I have a desktop .exe file that I use called "Convert".
I have had it for 10 - 15 years now and simply copy it to each new computer I use.
It only does one conversion at a time though...
If you are interested, drop me an email in PM and I'll send it to you.
Will probably have to change the .exe extension in order for it to slip through the email filters these days.

I despise use of e3m3 even though it’s most customary seemingly. I also despise how nobody can just use the same unit of measure, the amount of time saved from everybody doing conversions constantly would be astronomical.

I love Se3m3, mmscf sucks. But I want oil in barrels but not cubes.
Eventually you just think in both systems interchangeably.

As a guy who did the oil side of things for 20+ years, switching to the gas side for a few projects weirded me out. Se3m3 takes some getting used to. And yes, oil should be in barrels.

Global Petroleum Show was cancelled at the last minute Friday due to the declaration of emergency and numerous sponsors/key players pulling out. It was slated to begin today.

GPS has been a total dud for us in the past anyway. 99% of the people in there are just there trying to sell you something, and are too cheap to actually put a booth in.
I can't think of a single decent lead out of there the 2 or 3 times we put a booth in.

It is still a hit to Stampede Park financially but yeah, it was never something I fond much use for.
